At the start of the show, she is very easy to hate. She is a republican woman, married to the cheating president, she knows he's cheating, and stays with him, etc. She is shows as very weak and very bitchy. But in season 2 she grows so much. She starts living for herself and no longer living to please Fitz. Mellie starts to think of her own political career, past Fitz, and i think she would slay my life away as the first female president. When her son died, i was so crushed for her. She was so crushed and just sat in the white house crying and drinking. Mellie and Olivia have a weird relationship. Mellie of course hates that she is with her husband, but she understands how helpful Olivia was, and can look past her hate for her, and think about what is best to stay in the white house. I am happy that Mellie finally thinks about herself and has her own guy kinda. Mellie literally slays the show and is getting better and better as it goes on. I really just want her to eventually become the president, fuck Fitz.
