“And... could I get a large fry with that?”
“I’m sorry, what?” the cashier said choking on his breath. His eyes shot to the customer in dread.
“A large fry.”
The cashier’s hand began to tremble. As he motioned to select the “large” button on the monitor, he could feel a tear roll down his eye.
“Sir, that’s... um... that’s a lot of fries,” he replied, his voice quivered. He was feeling lightheaded. He could barely think straight. He wanted to vomit.
“That’s ok, I’m a big guy,” the customer said, chuckling to himself. He was too busy looking up at the menu to notice that the cashier was turning red.
“I just can’t ... I uhh... oh God...”
“Oh wait, actually make that a small please! Sorry looks like I’m a few dollars short.”
The cashier looked back in with a blank stare. Sweat pouring down his face. He wiped his brow ounce and returned to the cash register.
“Ok, your total will be 14.07. Have a good day.”
