For the reason that the U.S. got silver, but the tea is... that even with Simone, Russia (sorry the ROC) would have still likely won honestly. It just would've been within a point instead of like 3 1/2.
Almost nobody will ever feel the amount of pressure that she did/still does. Imagine being the FACE of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, consistently called the GOAT (since she is), and having all eyes on you all the time when it comes to anything gymnastics-related. Mentally that's a lot to take in, and anybody trying to compare herself to her last Olympics is kinda ridiculous considering the magnitude her name now holds.
Mental health is a real thing and while I was gutted that she removed herself from the situation, it was ultimately HER decision. Her coaches and other higher-up members of the USAG tried to push her to do it and she put her foot down. Good for her. Hopefully this does leaps and bounds for the mental health community when you have one of the greatest athletes of all time make such a hard decision for their own well-being.
