afa 2022 - top 5 female rap #5

Jan 19, 2023 by Absol
imageYou know what they say, best for last and all that… so it’s a good thing day 5 is something special! The fifth placer of my personal picks from female rappers is TiaCorine’s “I Can’t Wait.” Back when TiaCorine had one fan like 2 years ago, it was me, and what kept me interested was her stylistic variety & fun, punchy rhymes. Her talent’s on full display here as well; the track Chaka Khan is produced by someone who’s made appearances on her earlier albums, Kenny Beats. The beat is a lot of fun, a drumline of crispy snares and smooth kicks paired with these weird spacy, ambient synths that accompany Tia’s miscellany of flows. Love the hook, and especially the second verse. FreakyT is a chill, goofy track with these funny ad-libs (ooh yeh!) and some simple, yet catchy bars over a sparkly instrumental. Dipset turns up the heat a little bit, referencing the rap group while talking about a past relationship. Some of her fastest flows show up here, and even with the high-speed barring, she’s still enunciating and pointing each bar like a hibachi knife. I’m only 4 tracks into the album at this point, and there’s even more wacky bangers like Boogie, Kite, and Gas Station, and some more leisurely, luxurious tracks like Birds, Paris Hilton, and Find Yours. To wrap up this review though, I completely endorse everything TiaCorine has done or will do.
