Hated it :/ Had a lot of potential, but it turned out awful, especially for a series opener. I LOVED Avatar The Last Airbender, but this episode was just full of rushed storylines, pointless Last Airbender cameos just for the sake of pleasing fans instead of helping the story. Make references to the original series DUH, but put care into it, don't just be like "By the way, I happen to be so and so's son!" "Aren't you Toph's daughter?" Also Katara doesn't do much at all here. Think of it this way, If Avatar the last airbender never aired and this was their introduction to this world, everyone would be so confused. This show feels like a cash-in on avatar to me more then anything honestly. I don't give a fuck if people think it's great.
And Aang's son just so continently has to leave right when she's about to. And he's the only one that can teach her! But wait...She was able to bend the other 3 elements easily at a VERY young age, and she's known this airbending family I assume all her life, WHY THE FUCK DOESN'T SHE ALREADY KNOW IT? I mean Aang learned all the elements in one fucking summer with a fucking WAR happening. Kora's more naturally gifted too. Like there's literally a scene at the beginning where young Kora is like Bruce Lee, it lasts literally 10 seconds, and they're like "oop she's the avatar!" it's so fucking lazy. Korra appears years older then Aang was in the last airbender too. Big plot hole yeah! FIRST FUCKING EPISODE!
Also, the threat doesn't seem real here. In the last airbender, the whole world is at stake, they could bring an interesting element, but he show forces those people they show at the end as "the new bad guys" but they don't seem threating at all, and unlike where the last airbender immediately told us about the fire nation, we have no idea who these guys are, and it all seems very forced.
Worst of all? The scene where they try to make non benders look like bad guys!! yeah!! Non benders are treated as second class citizens and Korra just walks by like "but bending is cool!" the guys get mad (for good reason!) and then Korra just walks away. Those people deserve their freaking rights! This city is treating them terribly over something they can't control, and it causes them to live miserable lives, this show could've done on a moral lesson against discrimination, BUT NOPE! People who can't bend are given the "bad people" edit. This goes against EVERYTHING The Last Airbender ever stood for. This is terrible.
Could the show get better? Possibly, but this was just... bad... there's no way it can reach the last airbender's level of genius.
