Survivor San Juan Del Sur Episode 3 Recap! Oct 9, 2014
imageThis is my recap of the 3rd Episode of Survivor: San Juan Del Sur (Blood vs. Water 2)

IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE EPISODE THIS BLOG CONTAINS SPOILERS

The headline of this episode, the main source of controversy has been eliminated as John Rocker is the 3rd castaway to get his torched snuffed. I have to say, as much as I definitely won't be the founder of the John Rocker fan club anytime soon, it was disappointing to see him go because he was for sure a main source of entertainment every episode... Almost makes me fear for the future of the season.

After 3 episodes I'm still not impressed with the Hero Duel, which is really a shame because on paper the idea looks great, however its just not going as planned. The battle isn't an emotional wreck and by no means has gotten loved-ones mad at each other like they had hoped it would. Not only that but also it seems like the really half-ass the challenges, this challenge could fit in my living room! I was really hoping for Keith to pull this one out, however Wes did win making it the first win of the season for his tribe, Coyopa. On came the tears from Keith at the end of the challenge which were hard to determine whether he was crying because he lost or crying because he was proud of his son, a mixture of both maybe? Wes ultimately choses Josh to go to Exile with his father. This was an understandable move, Josh is a powerhouse, so getting him in good with his father with help Keith in the event of a merge, and may have its benefits with Wes as well.

On exile, it is finally Keith's turn to get a clue, which he immediately shares with Josh. The speculation then gets out that Keith may have the idol on Hunahpu, and that John (he does) may have the idol on Coyopa. Then we get some story thats supposed to make us feel good inside about how an older guy from Louisiana and a gay guy from New York get along and bond, which I have to admit was nice, and Im all about acceptance of everyone... but the clip seemed unnecessary.

Talk started to fume on Hunahpu, mainly from Jeremy upon discovering that John R. did not keep his promise to him and keep Val save, about John Rocker's past. Though no specifics are mentioned, Jeremy says that he was a major league pitcher, and has made some racist, anti-gay remarks and has been known for that. Without any sort of processing at all, the tribe immediately jumps on board, and Jon M. loudly calls him a bigot, however the most offended seemed to be Natalie. This all foreshadowed what was to come later.

Then we get to the immunity challenge, which was a pretty creative one, and it was something fun to change things up a little, and break away from that physical->puzzle type of challenge that we are all way too used to by now. The challenge was very close, however Jon M. and Natalie were able to pull out the winning score needed, becoming Hunahpu's 3rd consecutive immunity challenge win.

Following the challenge almost immediately, Natalie immediately calls out John Rocker for being a poor sport, which later turned into a rant on his racial and homophobic comments of his past. She continues to go at him and John actually maintains to keep his cool. But knowing John Rocker, he just had to open that mouth of his to which he tells Natalie, "If you were a man, I would knock your teeth out." This comment sets of the entire Hunahpu tribe, and even gets a kick out of Julie, in which she says "John!" in a relatively mother like tone. This is how I imagine their relationship, her always keeping him on a tight leash, occasionally making him sit in the corner when he goes a little too far (Hehe). Just about all of the Hunahpu tribe complains to Coyopa to get him out, a strategy that probably wouldn't work any other season, but since it is their loved ones... it has a bigger affect on them as opposed to it just being their competitors.

Back and camp Julie gets super angry because of John, and she worries it may hurt her in the game, which it very well might, however she receives little to no sympathy as all. As far as discussing who to send home, Josh still seems to be the dominant force of the Coyopa tribe, with the strongest influence of its members.

At tribal council, it seems evident John will be the one to go, and sure enough by a vote of 5-2 John's torch was snuffed.

Overall this episode would score a "good" on my episode ranking meter (Terrible|Bad|Ok|Good|Amazing) I feel that while this episode had many entertainment points, it did some major damage to the future of the season. This reminds me much of Devin's eviction BB16, that week was exciting, but getting rid of Devin removed a LOT of the drama. So Survivor may have won the battle with this episode... but I fear for their success of winning the war this season.

Thank you all for reading my first Survivor recap blog. Ill be posting one the day after every episode!!

First Blog! Oct 4, 2014
Hey!
Its my first blog here on tengaged, I figured I would start out with some basic info on my realty TV watching! I always have loved reality competition shows, you couldn't show me one I didn't like (except maybe Utopia, yikes.) I have watched every season of Survivor since they premiered and have been a pretty big fan of that.... However, my passion is Big Brother!! I'm a Class-A Big Brother nerd :). I've also seen every season of Big Brother and off the top of my head could rattle of every eviction that has taken place in order, as well as twists, houses, dates, and so on! Therefore, I consider my social life from the beginning of fall, to the end of spring (with a small break for BBCAN,) because when it is Big Brother time during the summer, everything goes on hold! So i mostly hope to post Big Brother blogs with some interesting ones in the off season as well as when BBCAN starts up again, and I will post Survivor blogs after each episode!

Thanks for reading, I look forward to future blogging!
