sjsoccer88 explain why then.
if people are going to say this to be edgy i want them to explain EXACTLY what about her stances is funny.
Sent by TGDeuxMoi,Mar 12, 2024
tgdeuxmoi I’m not being edgy. I can still love someone and not agree with them on issues. Even very important issues that personally affect or would affect me. It’s ok to show love for someone who may not have love to give or be shown love from others.

I really want to know though. If you are just immediately blocking out every single Republican or person who supports certain policies:
1) How do you ever expect people to come together if you will not at least entertain or listen and have CONVERSATION with them about said issues
2) You don’t have to agree at all. That’s not what I’m saying. You don’t have to compromise on issues that take away your freedoms and rights. But just yelling at, putting every single person in a box who votes red, and wanting them to die off isn’t a solution

People won’t change without conversations with people who are affected by how they vote. I personally believe there are people who vote a certain way solely for financial reasons. What is the incentive for a straight white male Republican to vote blue if they don’t personally have family or friends who could potentially be affected by Republican policies? There isn’t one. That’s why conversations need to be had.

I have sit down talks with family who I don’t agree with at all and explain my side. We get in arguments and leave pissed off, but I haven’t lost a family member yet due to a discussion. We are making progress. I try to see why they feel and think the way they do. And vice versa. A lot of my family has not been around a gay person. It’s new area.

You can’t expect to change someone’s mind who has been in an environment and situation for 65 years of their life just by blocking them out and telling them they are wrong. That will just simply solidify them even more into believing what they believe.
Sent by sjsoccer88,Mar 12, 2024
sjsoccer88 that's a flawed mentality, and I get that you **WANT** to have that mentality because I'm sure it makes it easier for you to cope with the fact that a lot of the people in your life in the South have Republican ideals. It's easier for you to say what you're saying than to accept the fact that they would prefer you not exist as a gay person.

I have accepted that at this point, with the overwhelming amount of information at everyones fingertips, that there is no conversing. The people that you might be able to sway in good faith are few and far between. It's not my responsibility anymore to convince these people that the LGBTQIA community deserves to be treated as human.

Your second paragraph about incentives is partially true, the Democratic party has HORRIBLE messaging when it comes to (specifically) young straight white males. They've cast them aside in an effort to win votes elsewhere. But that's the party's leadership causing that and I can't change that messaging. Me having a conversation with someone who hates gay people isn't worth the time or stress to change ONE mind.

Your third paragraph is nice in theory, though in this specific case you know good and goddamn well that woman is not changing nor will she ever see a consequence for her actions. That's why I say the same pressure has to be applied to Jenna and Sue as well as they are complicit and the most likely able to change her views if they don't presently agree with them (they might!)

So no - I will continue blocking these people out of my life. There are millions of people in this country that don't think that way and I don't need to put in work to convince someone that I deserve to simply continue existing the way I am. There are plenty of others to choose from.

Liberals be acting like they just learned the word “genocide” recently and just misusing it whenever 🤣🤣🤣

TGDeuxMoi so you’ve just given up trying? Where is the logic in that. You say it’s a coping factor because of where I live. And I’m sure the rhetoric near you is republicans are the devil and scum and should be burned at the stake. Can you honestly sit there and say you haven’t been shaped by those around your environment in the northeast as well? I think your response was even more flawed than you claim my original point was.

We can agree with that. I think the Democratic Party as an entire entity has done a poor job at getting their message across. It is definitely confusing because half the time I dont even understand where some of the people are coming from or what the end goal is. That’s something that can be fixed relatively easily in my opinion though.

Personally, I believe genuine conversations one by one can result in progress. It might be slow, but I believe it’s effective. Even if I can only change ONE persons mind, that’s one more than you can without even bothering to try. And honestly, I’m getting very “your vote doesn’t matter because you’re one vote out of millions” vibes from your response. And I think that is a very negative, dreary, and almost dangerous mindset. We cannot give up on people or showing them that everyone’s life matters no matter who they are. I choose and also cannot just give up on that.

i might be able to agree with you IF you werent the polar opposite of a moral compass yourself.
Sent by BenjaminB,Mar 12, 2024
Scott voting is an easy task you check a box.
I’m not wasting my time or energy on someone who believes I’m not equal to them simply because of who I am. It’s not my responsibility to burden myself with that nor is it my burden to debate this any further.

No one said it was your burden. But you don’t have to have a negative gloom and doom attitude about every single thing. It’s ok to want and hope for a better country. And I think having genuine positive interactions with people who may not see eye to eye could go a long way to accomplish that. Sue me for being positive

sjsoccer88 I get where you're trying to come from so I just wanna say a few things.

1) The democratic elected officials are mostly moderates or people who want to rerun for office so they dont piss off halfish of their constituents.
2) The democratic party has "awful messaging" (which i agree with) because for so long they've just rolled over and did what the republican party wanted just to get re-elected or keep the peace.
3) This is a genuine question. Are you not exhausted of having to settle/lie down/compromise your morals for the sake of kindness or being accepted by republicans. Like they haven't budged since the 1980's on anything. It's giving "Hey you voted to take away all our equal rights, but at least they aren't killing us bestie carolyn, thank you."

I bring these points as someone who likes and respects you, but it's one thing to have mutual respect for people and another to see carolyn antagonize LGBTQ people on here, support someone who advocates for literally bringing back everything about the 1940's and also idolize a woman who puts down other women while uplifting sexual offenders. Like I think there are good republicans, but she is not one of those...
