My kitten has this instinct from her mother to occasionally 'groom' you whenever she feels like you've lost enough of her scent.
She will groom you sometimes for up to 10 minutes.

my cat does this when I've been around other animals, if I'm outside while she is there and another cat is around, she will stand between me and the other cat, protecting her property haha
we had another cat that we adopted, and my cat molly, hated him, she'd hiss and swipe at hime, he was only a baby kitten bless him, in the end we had to give him to our nan, so we wouldnt lose either of them, cats can be strange creatures, I suppose it's just the way their instincts work
