Time To Get Off The Internet For The Night...

Mar 25, 2015 by Seal
Just read on Tumblr that virginity is a "social construct used to commodify women".

Yep, apparently the word used to describe someone who has never had sex is not an idea that has been around literally since the beginning of time. It's a new concept solely created to turn women into a material good that can be sold commercially en masse.

Man, when Tumblr people enter the real world, they're gonna get smacked hella hard by reality. The worst part is that they believe in everything they read on the website like it's a sacred religious text. They preach acceptance of everyone, unless of course you don't agree with everything they have to say, or worse, you're white/male/straight/conservative, then you're the scum of the earth and undeserving of life.

Seal you sound like such a dumb ass rn lol

"Yep, apparently the word used to describe someone who has never had sex is not an idea that has been around literally since the beginning of time. It's a new concept solely created to turn women into a material good that can be sold commercially en masse."

YES IT JUST NOW BECAME A CONCEPT, JUST N O W, and then you answer your own question really with "Yep, apparently the word used to describe someone who has never had sex is not an idea that has been around literally since the beginning of time"

Just because something has been used since "the beginning of time" (you aren't a damn paleontologist but okay) doesn't mean that it isn't a social construct rofl.

Nothing else in the world has the concept of virginity and what we use today isn't even real (aka popping a cherry).

So yeah the concept of virginity is a social construct, there is NOTHING that changes from being sexually active and not being sexually active so it isn't really a real thing like humans made it up so yeah work!

Brandonator You're misinterpreting everything I'm saying though. The aura and stigma around virginity is alive and well; it shouldn't matter whether you're a virgin or whether you're banged 50 people, because it's your preference and

brandonator I accodentally hit the comment button lol.

It's your preference and the whole purity idea surrounding virginity is perpetuated by society. Sure, I agree in that sense.

However, saying the word 'virgin' as a descriptor is a social construct? Someone who teaches for a living is a teacher. Someone who lacks a home is homeless. Someone who likes dressing up as an animal and having orgies is a furry (is that how it works?). Someone who has never had sex is a virgin.

It's a descriptor word that has surely been around since English language has. The stigma has also been perpetuated since the beginning of time too (paleontologists wouldn't study such a thing lol, come on now, you know that), coloring the light of a virgin as a pure individual. Is that outdated? Yeah, you could argue that. But it's not a new concept and it definitely isn't used to commodify anything. It's a description just like a ton of other titles are.
