American and British schooling system

Apr 10, 2010 by SanJoseSharks
I was asked the other day what the american equivilent of year 10 (British) was
I don't know I'm guessing it would be grade ten

It would really help if someone told me just how long you spend in elementry school
our schooling system over here in Britain goes as follows
(I am goin to put the American equivelent next to it)

Nursery=Pre-School/Kindergarten
Primary=Elementry
Middle school(optional in Britain)=middle school (American)
High School=junior High/senior High?
college/uni

this may make the British system a little easier

In my country middle school is optional
there getting rid of them too

we have nursery that leads on to reception the year 1-6
then it's high school for 5 years 7-11 then after that we have sixth form college uni or just leave

your usally in school for up to 16 years that's from 3-18
and all eduacation is funded by the government so it is free state eduacation although you can opt for private or home schooling
