Honestly, I'm not huge on Shawn Mendes, but this single was the first released single from him since In My Blood that I actually really liked. It has such an amazing build and literally feels like a whole-ass production! Like it snaps. To see it utterly flop on the charts...it hurts. So much shit charts really well, so for this to flop when it's quite literally a masterpiece. Like I'm not joking when I say it has some of the best pace/build in a song ever. Like it literally keeps slowly but surely bringing more and more and more throughout the song. Like it doesn't even stop a little between chorus and verse. It literally feels like a finale-esque song and I love big productions like that! Add the little intro that's in the album track placement right before this track and........chef's kiss!
#27 - Ungodly Hour - Chloe x Halle
This is Chloe x Halle's third entry on my year-end rankings. This is their highest placing song so far! Will they be able to beat it later on this year?
This song was such a grower! When I first listened to it, I liked it, but I wasn't crazy for it, but overtime, it has aged like wine! The verses have such a great flow, the pre-chorus is very catchy, and the chorus is just so chill, vibey, and catchy...it just all works together. The consistent beat throughout also really is enjoyable. The stars here, though, are the vocals ESPECIALLY at the end of the track. Chloe x Halle snap here! I almost considered linking their VMAs performance of the song over the audio video cause not only does it have more views, but holy fuck their vocals...literally insane! They're just so good! Also, side-note, but the bridge is even great! I wasn't sure on it at first listen, but I've grown to be obsessed with it!
#26 - Golden G String - Miley Cyrus
This is Miley Cyrus's ninth entry on my year-end rankings. Her highest placement was last year with Mother's Daughter at #11. Will she be able to beat it this year?
This song just hits you in the heartstrings. You see the title and judge a book by it's cover, assuming this is gonna be a trashy, party bop, but it's not. It's a super.....SUPER vulnerable ballad. Miley opening up about her life and pointing out to moments that all of us can remember is so powerful and really brings us into her life. It instantly makes me like her so much more and understand her so much more! The whole song is vocally stunning. Some of Miley's prettiest vocals ever. Also the song just has a beautiful pacing and production. You can hear the emotion in Miley's voice and I love that. The star of this song, though, is definitely the lyrics, though. Soooooo powerful.
#25 - Let Me Get Me - Selena Gomez
This is Selena Gomez's fourth entry on my year-end rankings. This is their highest placing song so far! Will they be able to beat it later on this year?
I'm so fucking happy this song exists. Honestly, Selena sounds good here, but I can't deny that the real star of this song is the fucking production! Like holy hell, it's so fucking good! When Rare released, I was praying there'd be a song with a similar sound to Me & My Girls so when this came on, I immediately knew that I'd fuck with it! Here's the gag though: it's even better than Me & My Girls! Also the bridge is an amazing change of pace through the song that pulls you back in before pushing you back. Also the one vocal from Selena in the final chorus where she goes like "aahoooh" but super high...we stan a vocal moment from a queen who, admittedly, doesn't have many. Obsessed with this!
