I decided to watch season 1 in the beginning of my survivor rewatch journey. Season 1 will always have a charm to it and has been one of my favorite seasons so far just based off the likeability of the castaways. This season lacks any type of strategic gameplay (in exception of Richard) but has a satisfying ending which makes up for its flaws. Also my rankings are a combination of gameplay, likeability, and the enjoyability of the cast so just because someone plays a perfect game doesn't mean they're going to be my number one.
16th. Dirk Been (12th): Simply annoyed me and was just there reading his bible. He was the most bland of the season. Also I think he made a comment about Richard being gay and it making him uncomfortable but he thought it was okay with the fact that he was shoving his religion in peoples faces and it irked me.
15th. Stacey Stillman (14th): Did nothing for me at all
14th. BB Anderson (15th): It was pretty predictable how his game was going to go. Just the grumpy old man of the season, but his beef with Stacey was iconic.
13th. Sean Kenniff (5th): Probably one of the dumbest people who played survivor. He was iconic for his alphabetical voting strategy, he refused to believe the blatantly obvious alliance and he sealed most of the jury's elimination because of it.
12th. Joel Klugg (11th): Typical jock of the season don't really remember too much of his game.
11th. Ramona Gray (13th): She seemed like a very smart person the first episode and I wanted her to do so well I just think she checked out too fast and started showing her personality to her tribe too late.
10th. Sonja Christopher (16th): One of the sweetest people on the show and sadly started the trend of getting the middle aged woman out first. Queen deserved better <3
9th. Susan Hawk (4th): She annoyed me most of the game BUT she was apart of the first alliance ever in Survivor which counts for a lot. She also made the first season memorable with her speech attacking Kelley and added very much needed drama for Survivor to be a success.
8th. Gretchen Cordy (10th): The expected winner of the first season. She was Sweet, competitive, and smart just wasn't enough with the lack of actual strategic gameplay which is why she was ranked lower on the list.
7th. Kelley Wigglesworth (2nd): Comp beast and ofc determined to win. There were very few of the season 1 contestants having an actual game. For me she didn't have too much of an interesting personality to be higher than 7th.
6th. Gervase Peterson (7th): Gervase just had a super charming personality that got him far in the game. He was super also a very entertaining person to watch.
5th. Jenna Lewis (8th): I love her energy and how happy she always was. We got to see her being emotional during the loved ones episode and it helped me care about her. She was also the biggest victim of Sean's stupid strategy which again makes us feel for her more.
4th. Greg Buis (9th): One of the most memorable personalities of the season. He was super smart and funny but he also had fun. He was great at comps def a person that you either love or you hate. If he played more of a strategic game earlier he could've been one of my favorite players.
3rd. Richard Hatch (1st): The smartest person in the game. He was the creator of the first ever alliance and the only deserving winner of the season. He could be very annoying at times which is why he's not my number one. Also its amazing that the first ever winner was openly Gay.
2nd. Rudy Boesh (3rd): RIP to this king, he was so effortlessly funny and likable. He was always himself and I respect that. His relationship with Richard was so refreshing and genuine of any season I've watched so far. He def got lucky with the connection he had with rich which was why he made it to the end.
1st. Colleen Haskell (6th): The original American sweetheart, She is so enjoyable to watch and just has pure energy. She also proved to be smart but again tried to be strategic too late. I also love her little bickering with Richard and her actually enjoying the fact that she annoyed him LMAO. She was my favorite the very first time I watched this season and still is my fav after the rewatch.
stop Stacey stillman is sooooo good she was legit playing the game even before Richard she was just so unlikeable and apparently she proved in court that production set up her elimination so she got some cash from it
bernard_sanders not exactly, they settled. Most likely what happened was that production asked leading questions in confessionals (which is standard practice in these types of shows) and because it was the first season the players didn’t know that the producer’s questions were noise that they had to filter out of their decision making process
Yeeees i read about that. they settled outside of court tho so guess we will never know. She was just out so early and her attempt failed unlike rich Bernard_Sanders
