The theme for this episode required you each to submit a slasher film. There are special requirements that a film has to have in order to be considered a slasher film. There may be some misconceptions or opinions on whether a film is considered a slasher film, but as I'm the one judging, it comes down to whether I think the film is a slasher film.
I'm happy that I finally watched this film to find out what all the fuss was about. I've heard a few people saying that they liked this film and so I was always curious why. I may be relieved that I finally got to watch it, but I'm not relieved with the film itself. It's definitely a slasher film but not really one I could grow to love. Some of the scenes were a little disturbing to me and I didn't care for them; whether that makes me a prude or not I don't care. However, my main issue was that the film didn't even turn into a slasher film until like the last half hour. I understand there's a buildup, but it didn't have to take that long.
To be honest, I completely forgot you had this Mystery Box when I posted the theme. It had been a while since the last episode so I forgot what the Mystery Boxes were. Did the Mystery Box work out for you? It's no secret that the Scream series is one of my favorite film series and last season it did receive the highest ranking for the first episode. Your Mystery Box allowed you to submit any film that was on the Prohibited Films list and we will see if it paid off for you.
I am so glad that you chose the remake over the original film. Last season the original film didn't rank very well because Robert Englund's Freddy Krueger has always scared the shit out of me and I was never really able to focus on the original film series. I remember that I actually went to the movie theater when this remake was released and I was actually the only person in the theater watching it. I know that it isn't as scary as the original and many people will claim that it can't ever compare to the original, but I'm probably one of the only few who prefer this remake over it's original.
Well it was a slasher film, but not one that I really cared for. I figured out who the killer was early on in the film but the revelation at the end kind of threw me for a loop. So I guess I was only half right? It definitely had the 80s feel to the film but most of the acting was a little tough to watch. I praise it for being ahead of it's time with the hidden identity of the film, but I really don't think I can watch it again or care to watch the other films in the series.
While it is a slasher film, it's definitely in a different category with other slasher films. More of a comedic slasher film, it's still very entertaining to watch. A little out of the box with the plot that could never happen in real life, it made the film more engaging to watch and I couldn't help but to have a fun time watching. I've actually seen the film before so I knew who the killer was, but it was still fun to rewatch it.
I was really glad that I was going to be able to watch this film because I used to like the Saw films. I'm not disappointed with the film. It was good and I enjoyed it. The ending was surprising and the whole film had me intrigued. The only thing, and I'm sorry to say, is that the film isn't a slasher film. The Saw series have never been slasher films. They are more like psychological horror and more torture porn as the series continued. There isn't any elements of a slasher film throughout and so I have to rank it at the bottom.
