Today I was at the local convienence store buying a milkshake... (cookies and cream it was sooooo good) anyways, I digress.. I was standing in line and a woman came up to me and asked if I minded if she set her coffee down while waiting in line to pay. I told her she could just go ahead as I had to use my bank card and she had cash and was only getting the coffee. She was surprised and asked if I was sure. Ofcourse I answered and she moved up to the counter a little surprised. She then noticed she was 25 cents short for the coffee and asked if I had a quarter. I said I would check when I got to the counter since I had no hands to open my wallet at the time. The person at the till moved and I stepped up and told the cashier that I would pay for the woman's coffee. She was SHOCKED and insisted that I didn't need to do that. I told her I know I dont need to I want to. I told her to save her money (all change, it was obvious she didn't have much to begin with) for a coffee another day. She did not even know what to say. She shook my hand and told me she would NEVER forget this. Why do we live in a society that it is so shocking that a total stranger would be willing to do something that like for you. Think about it. It such a small thing and impacted that woman so much. I'm not sure anyone had ever been that nice to her. In the town I live there is a big population of less fortunate families and adults with developmental delays. Often people get frustrated when those people get in there way, pay in all pennies, ask for a quarter or simply try to strike up a conversation. You should never take your blessings for granted because you don't know how that person got to be who they are today, maybe a year ago they made more money than you. If you are reading this consider doing a random act of kindness for someone today. Don't accept anything in return. Just wish the person a nice day and carry on.
