Welcome to another round of Insanity’s Song Contest! This week, you were put into two groups, and for your challenge this week, you were asked to submit a song from one of your favorite musical groups.
Before we start, I just want to give my condolences to Delete2544. He was unable to submit a song this week because his spleen ruptured and he had to be medically evacuated immediately. Delete, I wish you well in your brave and courageous journey, but rules are rules, and sadly you are disqualified from the competition.
Despite Delete’s abrupt end in the competition, there will still be a double elimination, but the question is do I still eliminate two competitors this episode? Or do I spare one of you? You’ll have to continue on to find out…

Anthousai - “R U Mine?” by Arctic Monkeys
I actually don’t mind this band every now and then. I don’t know their discography too well, but what I will say is that I do think they do a good job putting their own spin on this type of sound. I feel like once Arctic Monkeys started becoming more famous, bands with similar sounds were popping up everywhere, but ultimately I think this band really walked so more basic shit could run. The bridge (especially when listening to headphones) was kinda cool, and his vocals are very distinct. Easily my favorite thing you’ve submitted so far. Great work!
Irelia - “Call Me” by Blondie
This song is certainly iconic. I love her voice in this song, it’s so powerful and striking. I think Blondie was doing something extremely unique for this time, and this song has just aged so well. The instrumental before the final chorus was very impressive, perhaps a bit too long but that’s just being very nitpicky on what is otherwise a great jam. Solid pick.
Jacksonjoseph99 - “Sleep At Night” by The Chicks
They really rebranded huh… I do have to say though, I think this is a very successful rebrand. What I really enjoy is that there is such POWER in this song, and it’s not like a vocal showoff power, but more like a quiet confidence power. I really felt the emotion throughout the song, but the bridge into the final chorus was the ultimate serve. Easily my favorite song you’ve submitted in the contest so far. Great work!
MichelleObama - “Girlfriends” by Boys World
Oh this was really fun and brought some pretty great energy to this week. I loved the chorus, it was actually a lot catchier than I thought it would be, but I was completely sold by the end. It does feel like it ends a bit early, but I guess that’s just me wishing there was more song, which certainly isn’t a bad thing. Great job with this find.
NicoleF - “Bring Me To Life” by Evanescence
I can’t sit here and pretend like this song is not absolutely iconic. A bit of a departure from your usual entries since so far you’ve submitted pretty safe pop songs, so I’m happy to hear this coming from you. Amy’s voice here is absolutely stunning, and she works well with her fellow vocalist. Another case where a contestant who has immunity doesn’t really need it, pretty great song!

And now we have the bottoms of the week. I have three of you from group 1 and two of you from group 2. Ultimately I think group 2 had much stronger songs, and if I was grading your groups as a team overall, group 2 would have easily won. Unfortunately, both groups had duds, and one or more of you will be going home. Here are your critiques in alphabetical order.
FromAWindow - “Still in Love” by Thirdstory
This entry wasn’t necessarily bad, but the style of this feels a bit overdone. Like we’ve heard this type of style before. The overall song was fine, but I wish it picked up more energy as it went on. Like I was waiting for this song to pick up and for it to really stand out, but it stayed pretty stagnant the whole time. Not bad, but I was just wanting a bit more.
GiGi10 - “Red Flag” by Billy Talent
Well you are certainly taking a risk, I do have to applaud you for that. I don’t think this risk paid off for you unfortunately. I just don’t see any scenario where I see myself listening to this. I think in high school I would listen to songs like this to feel “EdGy,” but at this point in my life I’m very over this type of sound, it’s been a little bit overdone for me. The guitars are nice, I’ll give you that, but this just wasn’t for me.

I love how even after I gave you all that warning that sending the same artists all the time is not going to bode well you still did in anyways LOL. But seriously Lexey, even if this song is good, right off the bat I’m not too impressed that you’re still repeating artists. I liked the concept of this song, I think my favorite part was the intro with that horn, it really sets the scene. I wish there were more retro sounding elements throughout the song, and not just in the intro and outro, because otherwise it’s a pretty standard pop song. This song really isn’t that bad, but if you survive into next week I’m gonna need you to switch it up at some point.
LovelyKiss - “Meet Me Halfway” by Black Eyed Peas
If I’m being honest, this isn’t one of my favorite songs from this band. It’s so minimal, and yet so all over the place at the same time. I think what doesn’t work for me is that there is such a disconnect between the verses and the chorus. I don’t think they pair well together in this song. Also I don’t think this song really aged that well tbh? I think this band has much better choices that would’ve left you safe or in the top. This was a weird choice for me.
Rodrigueseve - “Ugly Heart” by G.R.L.
Interesting choice. It kinda feels country inspired with the instrumentation and even in the gritty delivery in the vocals. I think the vocals are decently showcased here, but overall this song really passed me by. There wasn’t really a lot of originality in this song, like this instrumentation is pretty plain, the progression was very standard. I think you could do better.
