Wouldn't it be better to throw 1-2 of the final challenges and vote out your weakest tribemates so that the stronger players from the other tribe can strengthen your tribe in the merge??

Here's an account of a game which my tribe lost 10-0. When there were five of us remaining, I was sure to go next. So I persuaded two of them to vote out our strongest player to avoid allowing the other tribe to strengthen themselves with him. That would have been worse than losing 10-0.
