THE TOP BLOG - DISCUSSION

Nov 23, 2013 by GeorgieGee
Okay, so the top blog of the moment is by Pogo11 and he is talking about how a user made a comment about him being gay because of a song lyric. You can see his original post below.

It made me think, and I don't know what the commentators thoughts were when posting the comment, but I think Pogo11 needs to just consider the music industry today. Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines song caused so much controversy because it's lyrics discuss rape, and how if a girl dresses a certain way, she deserves to be raped. The fact that people love the song, does this mean they are supporting rape? Or any sort of sexual harassment and intimidation of women? Nope. It means they like the song. Sure, it's catchy.

In the same way, the comment may have just been that. A song lyric. 'I know you want it' (Blurred Lines). Boys don't sing that because they mean it. They sing it because it's in the song.

If we were to take every single offensive line out of songs, lets be honest, we'd never listen to music and there would never be a music industry.

I am not supporting judgemental comments, and it's horrible when people are offensive online. But it's just something to think about.

I personally have a vendetta against Blurred Lines and refuse to listen to it. I will switch off the radio. I will not dance in a club to it. But I'm not suggesting no-one can because the lyrics offend me. Everything has to be taken into a personal context, and I think making a blog for everyone to see and naming and shaming another user for literally quoting a song lyric for Rihanna is a little unfair.

Origional Post:

Recently, a user, Etienne, commented on my blog where I quoted a song lyric from an artist named Rihanna and said "i thought you were straight, but now i know you're gay". It upsets me that he would judge a person's sexuality based on the kind of song lyrics they post in a blog on tengaged.com. I think this is wrong on several levels. Please plus this blog so that more people are aware of Etienne's judge-mental mindset. I hope this blog allows Etienne to keep a more open mind and to judge people for more than just simple stereotypes.
