I am pretty new at this game, so I dont know if there is an obvious answer, but how do you get to join those featured games, or ones that are run by other users?

Click groups at the top
Then when you have done that there is lots of games there but not all of them are taking sign ups right now
Just take a look at them
You can also click on "Home" And click on "Enrol". There are 4 kinds of games you can play castings(white), rookies(yellow onwards), survivor(orange onwards) and stars(brown onwards). Just join your first casting ans ask about how to play inside :P
