My thoughts on Survivor Samoa

Dec 21, 2009 by Comet
Spoilers for those who have not seen the finale.

So, I just watched the finale of Survivor Somoa (I was unable to watch it Sunday night so I had it dvr'd), and I have to say; Wow. Unfortunately, a friend of mine leaked who won, but I was still able to enjoy it. Here are some of my thoughts:

-Even though I knew who was going to win, it was able to give me some time to think about it. Throughout the finale episode, I kept thinking "I really like Natalie, but does she deserve to win?" I know people disagree with me, but I absolutely despise Russell and I'm glad he didn't win (unfortunately he'll probably be back next season, but I'll touch on that a little later), but after Brett got voted off the final 3 was revealed, all I could think was "Mick and Natalie do not deserve to win, as much as I'd like them to beat Russell". See, throughout the entire season, I could not believe the naivety, almost idiocy of some people that they were willing to shamelessly sheep with whatever Russell was doing. It's true, Natalie did nothing but ride coattails, and Mick did nothing for his game at all, besides win an immunity challenge. However, in what I believe to be one of the most legendary jury speeches ever, Erik completely changed my thinking. Everything he said was very true, and after his speech I truly believed that Natalie deserved to win just as much as Russell did. She outwitted, outplayed, and outlasted 17 other players to get to the final 3.

-I'm kind of upset they didn't go more into Ben and Yasmin's argument during the reunion. I thought that was kind of a big deal. But eh, w/e. I always think it's unfair the way they talk to basically the final 4 for 50 minutes and then "catch up" with everyone else.

-On the note above, I really wish Brett had beaten Russell in the Sprint's Player's Choice Award. I also really wish Brett had beaten Russell and won the game.

-I'd like to say that, not knowing what season 20 was going to be (or even that there was GOING to be a season 20), 30 minutes before it was revealed, I turned to my mom and sister and said "wouldn't it be great if they did another all-stars where they brought back 10 villains and 10 heroes?" No joke. I felt psychic and it made me extremely happy. Now, I've looked at some "rumored cast lists" and I have to say I'm surprised. First of all, I missed probably seasons 12-15, so I don't really know who half of the people on the lists are (and because of that FvF wasn't really that enjoyable for me). Second, I'm surprised they're considering bringing back people who were already on the first all stars (I find that a bit unfair, I'm sure they could find 10 villans and 10 heroes who were not in the first all stars OR FvF). Third, I'm surprised that Johnny Freaking Fairplay is not on ANY of the rumor lists. I don't really think I need to say why. As much as I hated him, WHY is he not on any of these lists? It makes absolutely no sense.

-My first reaction to cast lists was "PLEASE BRING ELIZABETH BACK PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE". She was basically my all time favorite player. But, unfortunately, she'd rather be slaughtered every morning by 4 people of conflicting political views than go back to play another round of Survivor. I know that she was asked to do the first season but refused for that reason, and it really boggles my mind that she'd do it again. But, hey, it's her life. Because honestly, when they said "heroes" Elizabeth and Ethan were the first people who came into my head. Never lied, never backstabbed, never were sneaky or sly, and always had a kind word for everyone. And it showed! Elizabeth came in 4th (only to numbers, I truly believe had her tribe gained the upper hand she would have made it to the finale and won), and Ethan became Sole Survivor, winning over Lex in the final 3 because Kim J saw him as worthier than Lex.

-I hate that they now decide the sole survivor from the final 3. They need to go back to final 2. Whatever prompted them to do this is beyond me. Final 2 > Final 3.

I'm going to wrap this up, as it's become rather long and I doubt anyone will even read it anyway. I'm excited for the next season and I can't wait to see who's on it. (ELIZABETH FTW!)

I totally agree with the final 2 vs final 3. I was thinking that last night. It makes the final show less exciting. :/

Also,  I felt the same way before and after the speech. Even though I am a huge fan of russell. :P
