"They're going to eat us." A small voice said, everyone turned to see Ellis, his head resting on the side of the roof, looking out at the interstate. His sister scoffed as she grabbed his hand and pulled him back over to where they were resting with their mother before. "Don't say that." she said sitting back down with him.
Jemma looked at her children huddled in the corner, and couldn't help but feel ashamed because every part of her was screaming to leave them, let them be someone else's problems. Voices brought her out of these thoughts as she turned back towards the others. She missed the beginning of the conversation but it was obvious they were discussing what to do next.
Anthony was pointing out at the interstate, "We get through that mess and were home free, out of this mess of a town!". Klaire had her arms crossed and was lightly tapping her foot, she was listening to what he had to say but she didn't agree with it all. Jemma stepped forward entering the conversation herself, "You'd just rather use us all as bait for those things while you make your way across!" she was clearly frustrated.
Audri placed a reassuring hand on Jemma's shoulder, "Of course that's not what he wants." Klaire nodded to Jemma agreeing, "Nothings going to happen to your kids, promise." she smiled. Jemma kept silent, angrily. She was more concerned for her own safety.
Patrick finally decided to intervene, once again. "What if someone just distracts those things? All it would take is some noise and they'd all go in one direction. Then the rest of us could hop across, problem solved." Wayne grunted, "One problem, whoever makes the distraction is probably dead. Let's face it, those things get through anything when they are in large enough numbers. So that person will be in the most danger."
"It's still the best plan." Patrick was holding his ground, he felt it was their best shot. Ryan and Greg looked at each other, nodded, then raised their hands slightly, "We'll do it. We'll create the distraction, we're quick and if there is two of us then it'll be a little less dangerous if we pull them in two different directions." said Greg. His brother Ryan nodding in agreement.
"Just do us one favor." Ryan said, looking over his shoulder at Kate who had basically cried herself to sleep. "If things head south and we don't make it or get split up. Watch out for her?" He turned back to the group. "Of course." Klaire said with a smile, "We're all in this together."
Zoey and Connor the married couple sat nearby listening. Connor stood up. "We aren't going with you." he said looking back at his wife. "We talked it over and we're going to wait for the military or something. It's just not safe and we...just can't." With that he turned around and sat back beside his wife. Klaire looked like she was about to protest but Patrick and Wayne waved her off.
"Can't we just find a bridge and cross it instead?" Falisha said, her voice cracking a little from her dry throat. "No, the bridges would probably be far worse, and we'd have to actually get to one. And with how many cars are jammed around this area we'd never be able to drive long before getting stuck." Wayne said motioning towards the mess of cars in the surrounding area.
