— — LASER CHESS — —

JOHN vs JULIAN

This Death Match is a variation on the iconic board game Chess that we call Laser Chess. You win by reflecting a laser to capture the opponent’s king.

This game is played on an 8 x 8 game board, similar to regular chess. However, the pieces and movements are different. The playing pieces consist of the following:

-        One LASER (https://imgur.com/UtxdvDs.png  ), which fires a beam at the end of each of the player's turns. It can be rotated but cannot move or be turned to fire away from the board.
-        One KING (https://imgur.com/tJvlqoK.png  ), which the player must defend at all costs. It can move in any direction, but has no defensive capabilities, and is captured as soon as a laser strikes it from any side.
-        The SPLITTERS (https://imgur.com/YuWBIF8.png  ), which splits any laser fired into it into two beams, one going at a 90-degree angle LEFT of the initial beam, and the other passing straight through. It cannot be attacked.
-        Five TRIANGLE KNIGHTS (https://imgur.com/ccBII7R.png  ), which have a diagonally-oriented mirror on it (the blue line) to bend a laser's light 90 degrees in either direction. The other two sides of the piece are vulnerable, however, and the piece will be removed if a laser hits it from one of its two non-mirrored sides.
-        Two SQUARE KNIGHTS (https://imgur.com/O2il7wk.png  ), which are similar to the Triangle Knight, but has a mirror on only one side to bounce a laser back in the opposite direction. All three other sides are vulnerable.

The candidate with the most CrisisCoins will make the first move, or a random draw if tied.

On each turn, the candidates take turns either MOVING a valid piece to any adjacent space (Up, Down, Left, Right or Diagonally) by stating the name of the space to move to (e.g. A2), or by ROTING a piece 90 degrees. After each turn, the player's laser is fired, and any piece that is hit on a non-mirrored side by the laser is captured and removed from play (the mirror side is indicated in light blue).

This continues until one candidate successfully captures their opponent's King by landing the laser beam on any of its four sides, winning the game.

NOTE: There are also spots on the board near the lasers that only certain players may move pieces to. This is to avoid a total illegal “blockade” strategy, but still allows you to reduce your enemy’s options. Plan accordingly.

In the event of an un-winnable board (or if both players agree to do so) the board will be reset from the start formation, and the Death Match will continue until a win or a forfeit.
