The theme for our look was based around fairies that come out during the day and night to help the sun and the moon (Sol and Luna) keep the natural world in order… because everything about us is natural. I got inspiration from the Victoria’s Secret angels – when the supermodels walk down in VS lingerie whilst wearing angel wings – but I wanted mine to be a bit more avant garde and draglike, hence the added details in the makeup.
My look represents the night fairy who fills the sky with stars and helps all the nocturnal creatures like fireflies, bats and drunk people who stagger out of bars in the early hours of the morning. My dress is made of a light pink sheer fabric but is adorned with rhinestones to keep my modesty but also add a bit of sensuality. To keep the night time starry sky look going, I have bejewelled the side of my mug with rhinestones which flow down my neck and into the dress. I have also added rhinestones into my weave and added some sparkly wings, because all good fairies need a drop dead gorgeous set of wings.
Selegna’s look represents the daytime fairy who wakes up the animals and plants in the wild by shining sunbeams on them and giving them golden showers. I let her borrow one of my dresses because her gowns look like they came from the 99cent store when they were on clearance. To keep the looks very similar and to show cohesion between the looks (yes I watch Project Runway, bitch) I made a set of golden wings for Selegna to wear which were made out of coat hangers sprayed in gold paint. I painted part of Selegna’s face golden partly to hide her masculine features, but also in order to make it look similar to the rhinestones on my face and drew on 3 small stars on the other side of her face to represent the three most important people in the competition – me, myself and I. I was going to use lead paint on Selegna, but Doody wouldn’t let me.
