Ask Carly: ATL Q&A - S2, E3

Sep 22, 2017 by carlyjordan14
image1. Is Nate going to turn out to be just as selfish and ruthless as Chandler?

It’s still early, but I think it’s safe to say that Nate is not the guy we all thought. In the beginning, Nate was that friend who always tried to keep everyone on track. Now, we’re starting to see this jealousy come out that isn’t attractive. We may be in the apocalypse, but those basic human emotions are still there.

2. What was going through your head while writing this episode?

As I was planning the episode, I knew there would be a ton going on just because all the key players were now in Revco. To me, this felt like a mid-season finale, which is both good and bad. The good is that it brings a lot of stories to an interesting climax. The bad is that, now, I have to raise the bar a bit more with these last two episodes of the first part of the season.

3. What can we expect next?

Lots of character development and interaction. Of course there will be zombies as well, but what’s interesting this season is that the dead seem to pose less of a threat than those living.

4. Which group would you have wanted to be a part of if you were a survivor in this series? Why?

The last time I answered this was last season and since then my answer hasn’t really changed. I’d still want to be a part of Zale’s group, but now that we’re in Revco - the possibilities are endless!

5. Was Zale and Chance’s interaction fan requested or thought of by you?

I can’t remember if fans had tossed out the idea of Chance and Zale, but it was something I’ve been thinking about for a while. To me, Chance has been this background, extra character. He has an interesting backstory and in order to get to that I needed to pair him with someone who would be more or less an equal. To me, Zale was that person. They both approach things in a similar way, so even if the romantic route isn’t pursued, I can see these two being close friends.

6. In the long run, who do you think is on the path to redemption?

I think the most clearly obvious one is Kevin. He’s out there on his own and trying to figure out who he is. Is it the smartest time to try and find yourself? No, but days are numbered so there’s no time like the present!

7. What is different, in terms of writing, between this season and last season?

There’s some pretty big differences. Last season everyone was in a group, which made it easier to keep track of things. Now, everyone is all together in one place so I’m having to continuously go back to the old episodes to see what’s already been said.

8. Why did Krista have to get bit?

Honestly, since before the very first ATL episode was written I knew that the reunion between Braxton and Krista would be bitter sweet. I knew Krista would be bit and a tough decision would have to be made. These characters have been through a lot individually and now this is an obstacle they’ll have to navigate together. Will they be able to? That will be interesting to watch. Also, I wanted to give the fans a real life or death interactive choice. Krista’s life is literally in their hands and it’s going to be interesting to see how that plays out.

9. What will it be like when Ofelia and Meredith finally interact?

Imagine running into the person your spouse cheated with and left you for. Now imagine that situation happening in the apocalyptic times where emotions are already running high. I’ll leave it at that!

10. What has the fan reaction been to Miles and Ashley vs. Miles and Tessa?

Interesting! When it came to Miles and Ashley the response was mostly mixed with only a small bit of interest. When it came to Miles and Tessa the response was a mix of it being a budding friendship or a total ship. It’s going to be interesting to see how opinions change over the next couple of episodes!
