I'm thinking of watching the series,but I heard its connected to the movie "Physco",and I've never seen the movie,so would I be completely lost if I started the series? Or is it a good enough show that it's still interesting?

No the series explains everything as you watch it, it's an amazing show.
Its like a newer remake of the movie

Its everything that happened before Psycho...but you should watch the movie anyways because its a masterpiece.
