🛑 Since we're in final 5, everyone will get critiques just as much as be ranked in the bottom... or the top. No in between.
There was a ton of anticipation for this week's results and I should state... The fault is on the stars. Now should we go to critiques?
▪️ 𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐐𝐔𝐄𝐒 ▪️ ItsAlexia ─ “willow - dancing witch version (elvira remix)”
SOOOO, i have said I don't really like Taylor's music. But while I actually love Willow's original version, I think this falls behind a little bit? I think turning this chill song into a more dancy mysterious tune is kind of a mistake on my end. It isn't, like, bad, but I did expect more at this stage of the comp.
boyfriend ─ “Jessica Pratt - This Time Around”
This song is kinda magical. It's like watching the sunset with your loved one drinking orance juice (hello LURRDE). I really like the acoustic folk vibes, now I dunno if her voice is that deep or if that's an effect but that's... different than anything I've listened to. It's ALSO different than what you've presented so far and for that I think you've nailed it! It grew on me over the listens, and I adore music that start as unoffensive and just... grow to be something you cherish.
mathboy9 ─ “JUTRØ - TRAVVA”
Wait this slaps so hard??? I wouldn't give anything for it at first but then it has this mystical dark vibe, reminds me a lot of witchhouse music and also a bit of Diamond Hard from Kerli (which is a complete utter bop), definitely one of my favorites this week as I've mentioned in other weeks that I'm a sucker for this kind of style. It's probably the fiercest of the submissions.
ILoveSleep ─ “AURORA - Gentle Earthquakes”
So, I knew this song before and I love it. I love her how voice is soothing and cozy to listen to. I also love when she goes "my head, my heart" at the chorus with a whiny voice, it gives a little more personality to the song. I love how lyrics focuses on natural enviroments cuz that's like... totes woods witchy vibes. You just... continue to bring it to us every ball?
Lukesaur ─ “Ciara - Paint It, Black”
I didn't know this cover from Ciara yet, but judging by the fact it's from a soundtrack in which the movie... has the name of a witch... it's not a surprising submission, I feel. As I hear, it sounds very much like a Maleficent soundtrack song. Which is... decent I guess. I do think the instruments sound kinda cheesy. Overall an OK song.
Since you two landed on the bottom for not performing well in delivering forest nature witches, I may now ask the opposite. I want the showdown songs to encapsulate the feelings of modernity. Whether it's by the lyrics, by the sound and beats of contemporary music or whatever else that could be interpreted.
Think music that could be applied to a modern perspective, not futuristic, but in the present time, music that could be heard at any corner in a big city.
