I'm filing my taxes late

if I owe the state $36 and the late filing penalty for that amouny is 5% ($1.80). Should I bother paying the $1.8 or risk it and not send in the penalty? I don't know if they would come after me for such a small amount

I would just pay it. I doubt they will care but don't give them any possible excuse to come after you.
