Beautiful has been widely embraced as an anthem by the LGBT community for its message of self-empowerment and inner-beauty, particularly focusing on the music video for its inclusiveness in validating LGBT+ individuals in an era where this was not common in the slightest. Additionally, the song writer of the song is Linda Perry, one of the most celebrated song writers of all time who is a member of the LGBT+ community.
Another fact I LOVE about this song is that Christina's vocals on the track are the first demo recording. Christina was originally unhappy with the vocals and wanted to re-record but Linda didn't want her to because the song is supposed to be about imperfection, being vulnerable, and ultimately accepting ourselves.
And finally, the reason I chose this song is because this song was released around the time I was hitting puberty and I use to be obsessed with watching VH1 and music videos, and remember seeing this video and being completely in awe. It was truly the first time I remember seeing someone with a large platform embracing people who are gay/trans in a way that was incredibly serious and heartfelt and not for comedic effect. I remember this honestly changing my view of myself when I was coming to terms with being attracted to men. I remember watching this for the first time and feeling like maybe there wasn't something "wrong" with me, and maybe I was just different, and that was okay.
Well since that song was previously picked and I wrote a thesis level statement about it...
This is one of my favorite songs of all time by a band that is loud, out, and proud. I believe every member besides the female vocalist Ana is gay, but the lead singer Jake Shears has been a gay icon for ages and I'm a huge fan of this band and this song in particular.
I am taking a big risk sending men because they tend to not do well in these games but I wanted to highlight Billie Joe Armstrong. I dont think alot of people know he is bisexual even though hes in one of the most infamous bands of recent time and he deserves his lgbt moment! This song is my personal favourite Green Day song. Its very simple but it makes sense in the context of the song (that be it the cycle of insomnia) but when the music builds up towards the end is some of my favourite moments of music ive heard. I love it

Honestly, I’m going a completely different route from everyone else and taking a huge risk with this one. Being in the judge’s role for two seasons and moving over to a competitor, I have been questioning what I would want submitted for each round rather than what I want to submit, and with this round I feel like a bold statement piece is needed to rise above the sea of basic LGBT that I see.
