For the reason that the U.S. got silver, but the tea is... that even with Simone, Russia (sorry the ROC) would have still likely won honestly. It just would've been within a point instead of like 3 1/2.
Almost nobody will ever feel the amount of pressure that she did/still does. Imagine being the FACE of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, consistently called the GOAT (since she is), and having all eyes on you all the time when it comes to anything gymnastics-related. Mentally that's a lot to take in, and anybody trying to compare herself to her last Olympics is kinda ridiculous considering the magnitude her name now holds.
Mental health is a real thing and while I was gutted that she removed herself from the situation, it was ultimately HER decision. Her coaches and other higher-up members of the USAG tried to push her to do it and she put her foot down. Good for her. Hopefully this does leaps and bounds for the mental health community when you have one of the greatest athletes of all time make such a hard decision for their own well-being.
I have to say, I feel they had a really good chance to win with Simone. But I am so thankful that she bowed out while she could. She knew she couldn't go on and if she did carry on who knows what may have happened.
She did it for herself as when doing the run up for the vault you could tell she wasn't right. If she carried on the rest of the events, who knows what could have happened. Her 'medical issue' could have escalated into alot worse and finished the rest of her career
J4ckWilko 100% agreed, the risk was not worth ending her career this morning. Lukesaur Suni is the MVP from this team final, she HIT routine after routine
