New's Movie Taste: All Stars - ROUND 5..

2 NewNightmare7, Aug 24, 2022

Hello! Im so happy i was able to do this in 1 day I tried.
Ok so both of ya went with Hans Zimmer instead of Jerry Goldsmith which is fine! Poor Jerry lol
Anyways, here are the results:
stuartlittle16 - Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest (2006) - Round out the trilogy in this competition! Hans Zimmer is a legend and for great reason. I feel like he truly understands how to use music emotionally to capture scenes and by god is it great in this movie. While the score is very similar to the first (obvi) it works for great reason. That being said, I do like this movie but its probably my least favourite of the trilogy cause while the performances are amazing (Bill Nighy as Davy Jones is amazing and I love Naomie Harris in anything!), I do find it to be repetitive of the formula that made the original work and where the 3rd film is a climactic battle, this just feels steady. Its not a bad thing but in an action-adventure swashbuckling film Im not sure. Regardless though, its really well made, well acted and the music is great as always.
Symmetry888 - Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (2002) - I never would have thought this movie would start with a birthing scene. The animation is gorgeous. Like some of the best from an american animated movie i think ive ever seen. It flows so nicely and is detailed just enough. I can't get enough of it. This movie is amazing. Its very impactful and I love the choice to do a mostly visual film. The horses not being anthropomorphic and having no dialogue was an amazing choice and it relied in expression and I loved it. That fucking score oh my god its absolutely beautiful and epic and emotional and encapsulating i just adore it. I have one issue though and it pisses me off quite a bit is the fucking songs. It gives me Tarzan vibes and...well i dont like the songs in Tarzan. To me I rather hear heartfelt score to show how sad spirit is rather than a Bryan Adams song describing it. To me that takes away the value of the storytelling the movie is going for. But marketing takes over so i get it. It just bothers me a bit cause its a grade a film but those moments can take me out of it. But aside from that I really liked this movie.
Ok so both of you sent really good movies with great score but only one can stay and that person is....

New's Movie Taste: All Stars - ROUND 5..

5 NewNightmare7, Aug 24, 2022

Omg hey all I'm back!!!
Ok so I will say every movie here was good! I enjoyed every one to a certain degree and its iconic.
That being said, this is the last round of the season with 2 winners and 2 high placements. There is no low this round either only a bottom 2 <3
With that said, the following 3 people are SAFE:
Demgirl6 - Charlie & the Chocolate Factory (2005) (Composer: Danny Elfman) - No but straight up I fucking love this movie. It was one of my favs ever growing up and I find it so much better than the original by far in literally EVERY aspect. Tim Burton's burtonisms are so effective, the performances are top notch (from Freddie Highmore to Johnny Depp to Anna SophiaRobb), the worldbuilding with this factory is amazing and I absolutely love the score. The songs are hella catchy (Veruca Salt is on my phone) and the score like the main titles are so good and that fucking doll entrance scene...a masterpiece. Honestly, probably my favourite Burton film and one of my all time favs.
CarolinaSteele - Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (2003) (Composer: Howard Shore) - You singlehandedly got me to watch the Lord of the Rings trilogy. And I watched the extended editions cause thats what I had. You also got me to watch the Pirates of the Carribean trilogy as well lmao. I notice that like Peter Jackson has these interesting isms with his cinematography (something Sam Raimi has too) with fast zoom ins and certain things like that. Its always fun to see. Also, Miranda Otto going "I am not a man" and just fucking slaying the witch king was everything I needed and more. Like yes! The one thing I absolutely appreciate about this trilogy is how important alot of the characters are. Like I only really knew of Frodo and Gandalf (among others) having importance but naw fam all 4 hobbits have so much to do as does Aragorn (probably my fav character) and Legolas/Gimli's friendly rivalry is fun. Even Miranda Otto's character who was like introduced as the other possible love interest is just like "no im a badass" and I love it. The score is lovely as always. I like how each film has its own through line with the score (the first being playful, the second being dark and gritty and the 3rd being triumphant and epic). The ending score after the ring is dropped is so beautiful oh my god. its a great arc that completes this trilogy well and while it might not be my favourite score (or film) of the trilogy I do find it very impressive, entertaining as hell and investing and thats all I need for a movie.
turkeylover - Assassination Nation (2018) (Composer: Ian Holtquist) - I remember you very much wanted this movie submitted in the original round but I couldnt find it but here we are now! Interesting to find its a Sam Levinson movie. But then I saw the style and I was like oh ok this makes alot of sense. He loves to play with colours and im ok with it. I like vibrant..

New's Movie Taste: All Stars - ROUND 5

17 NewNightmare7, Aug 7, 2022

Omg hey y'all!!! Im gonna try to get this round done faster than a month lmao its been messy
Anyways so I am bringing back one of my favourite rounds from Season 1! It was a hit for me and I just wanted to do it again <3
We are doing SCORES 2.0!. Idc idc
So obviously you can't do a film that has been used in this series but for the sake of it, you can not use a sequel or something in the franchise (if there is one) of the submitted films in the original round in season 1 as the themes will likely be similar and im not here for that.
And I want your thoughts!!! Tell me why you like the score. It helps me get perspective!
Okie dokie goodie luck!

New's Movie Taste S2 - ROUND 5 (RESULTS)

3 NewNightmare7, Feb 22, 2022

Hello! This one was a fast one yeah?
So like last round I will just plop all the critiques together. There will be a low placement however...
With that, here are the critiques!
Voila - The Fox and the Hound (1981) - Man so I had a huge Disney binge a while ago because I guess as a child I lived under a rock and barely seen any. This was the first one that actually made me tear up. That scene was just heartbreaking and that alone makes this a great movie. The movie itself though is really good! Tod is a great character who just wants to be everyones friend. I relate. Copper is an interesting character as well (I love that he is played by Kurt Russell). I like the concept of nurture and how it really affects your upbringing and the two characters bring the opposites of that pretty well. If I have any gripe with it is that I think Chief should have died like he was supposed to. To me, it doesn't make the conflict that interesting or pack a punch. I get it, it's Disney but Disney has done dark shit so its not out of the normal. Oh well, great movie!
Booyahhayoob - The Incredibles (2004) - This. God this movie is perfect. The writing, the animation, the villain and the motive, the characters, the voice actors, the pacing, the direction, the amazing score, Edna fucking Mode. I love that this was a catalyst into what the Superhero genre would become. It's impact. From the opening interviews straight to the final scene I am hooked, vibing alone and just in love. Even the smaller details like Dash's laugh as he runs on water are investing and fun to spot out. Its such a great movie and one of the best films I feel ever made. I always love seeing people analyze the movie and theorize because it just shows the effort that went into the movie. Brad Bird killed it.
NanoNerd - Finding Nemo (2003) - Aw I loved your story! I feel that way with Cars and The Incredibles although looking back on it, I find one more superior! As a kid this one never stuck out to me or I just never had the accessibility to it. Like literally it wasn't available to me. Anyways, I really enjoy this movie. Merlin actually trying to be a good dad is something I can't relate with. I always related with the turtle. I love just being chill its nice. Good for them! Anyways, while I do enjoy the movie, I do find it a little slow in places. Particularily with the dentist tank scenes. It takes me out of the story but I understand why its there. Aside from that its a pretty good movie so pop off!
tanarexix - The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996) - Oooo I love this movie. Arguably the darkest disney movie and I was on board from the start. I love the visuals, the grand scale of everything and just how dark it is and where its willing to go. I was hella shook. Quasimodo is such a sympathetic character and he just wants to live life. I feel so bad for him and his journey especially because people just constantly use him and..

New's Movie Taste S2 - RESURRECTION (RESULTS)

2 NewNightmare7, Feb 19, 2022

Heyyyy welcomeeeeee
Ok so I have the critiques then im a choose a winner. Firstly, I wanna say thank you to the 4 of you for taking interest to continue I appreciate the hell out of it and respect you all so much!
With that, here are the critiques:
Thirteen - A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) - A masterpiece by Wes Craven. This is just such a tightly written movie. It is very well paced, the scares are truly scary (like I showed this to my friend who has not been scared of classics I showed her but she was scared by this one). I love the tina scenes. The opening is so creepy and the music helps set the tone and atmosphere so well. Heather Lagenkamp gives a pretty awful performance at first but once she actually becomes the main character, the performance is astounding. I wonder if it was intentional. But obviously the stand out is Freddy. Like damnnnnn. Ugh such a great movie I have loved it since I was a kid and it just constantly holds up. Even some of the stuff that doesn't just has this 80's low budget charm to it that its great in retrospect. Love it
tanarexix - Jurassic Park (1993) - A masterpiece by Steven Spielberg. Oh I love this movie. Its like a child's rite of passage into more adult oriented movies. The effects are just remarkable! Im just still shook for how well they look given the time. And the performances are really good! Sam Neill is great, Laura Dern is great, Jeff Goldblum is great, Samuel L. Jackson does nothing but is great! I just love this movie omg. The score is beautiful and the cinematography is great particularily with the T-Rex scene. I wish it was in 2:40 aspect ratio but thats a nitpick. The action is great and the tension flows nicely and gives you enough time to breathe before going crazy again. Iconic I love it!
Lifeiscool - Hairspray (2007) - So I'm not the biggest fan of musicals. I find that the music really has to stick out for me to enjoy the film as a whole and i've only liked a couple musicals in my lifetime. I love this movie omg. The music is amazing damnnnnn. The performances are great as well. I love John Travolta's physicality to Edna it was very odd but was great? I also love how progressive this movie is. It all just felt so heartwarming despite the subject matter being very dark but I liked how it played out. This is just a fun movie that can be rewatched over and over and I love it.
Yawnha - The Time Machine (2002) - Oh my god Guy Pearce's hair is horrible. His facial structure does not compliment it and I feel personally attacked. Anyways, the movie starts out pretty good! I like the set up and Guy Pearce is doing a good job! Then the movie goes downhill. It doesn't answer any of its own questions and what it does answer was out of the place with where the movie was going. It tries very hard to be too smart despite that. It's very unfortunate because its entertaining but self indulgent. I wished it had a tighter..

Ranking Every Movie I Saw In Theatres

14 Jaxon, Dec 29, 2021

In 2021 :).
I've wanted to do this all year and made myself wait for the end of the year... and since my next movie isn't until Scream in 2022, it's finally time to do so!
These are the nine movies I saw in order of seeing them...
Wrong Turn
The Unholy
Spiral
The Forever Purge
Escape Room 2
The Green Knight
Candyman
Halloween Kills
Resident Evil
Let's get to the ranks! Slight spoilers ahead... so skip a movies review if you haven't seen it and want to.
9. The Green Knight
So the only reason I saw this was because my BF really wanted to... and let me tell you... this shit was AWFUL. I mean he liked it, but for me? Complete trash. I literally fell asleep in the theatre and I have never done that in my life before. Ever. My major complaint with the movie was there was no talking? Like at all? And it came off as very pretentious... like despite the fact I hated it and slept through the third act... I still KNEW the plot and I guess 'twists'? But it is one of those movies where its like, you're not supposed to understand what happened because it is soooo elevated and sophisticated and you're supposed to be confused, and if you don't like it you just don't get it. Like no hun, I got it, it just sucked. As simple as that.
8. Spiral
This was THE biggest letdown for me this year. I didn't expect to like The Green Knight... I expected to be slayed by Spiral. She did not slay me. For starters, the movie was very... predictable. Like I remember turning to my BF at the latest halfway through and saying this is the killer. I hated how they didn't use Tobin Bells voice... the new one sounded silly. And my biggest gripe with the movie was a mistake they made before... but doubled down on it and made it worse. The traps were inescapable. I kinda hate when a Saw movie does that? It takes away from the concept of what makes Saw unique. It isn't JUST torture porn (I mean it is) but it also has that thought provoking situations where would I cut my arm off to save my life? Could I be able to? When there is no situation where it is on the person... it just feels wrong and torturing people just to torture them. Also the best character died off in the most impossible trap and that left a bitter taste in my mouth.
7. The Unholy
So now that I got the movies I really didn't like at all out of the way this ranking will turn slightly more positive. I didn't really expect anything going into The Unholy, and I didn't really get anything leaving it. The movie was good, not great. It had its flaws and it had its strengths. It's kind of just your run of the mill horror. Nothing special, nothing new. It did it's job and I would watch it again. I just wouldn't be shouting from the windows telling people they have to see this.
6. Halloween Kills
So anyone who knows me knows I am a horror movie fanatic... and my unpopular horror opinion is Halloween as a series has never been iconic for me. With that being said, I really enjoyed the 2018 reboot a..
