0 cigspriced, Jan 17, 2018

Alcoholism has been around since ancient times when man first discovered how to make wine from grapes. Over many centuries, both men and women have received intense pleasure from drinking alcohol in one form or another. Whether it is beer, wine, a shot, or a mixed drink alcohol is poison to the alcoholic. How many times have we heard the clitche? One drink is too many one thousand is not enough. Alcoholism goes far beyond the boundaries of consuming too much alcohol and has much more to do with the epidemic of addiction. If the Alcoholic could just stop drinking the problem would end there. However, quitting is usually not the option taken because the addiction to alcohol starts in the brain.
There are many causes linked to the disease of alcoholism. The first casual effect has to do with gene linkage to ancestors. Does Alcoholic behavior and tendencies run in the family? If this is true, one has a greater chance of becoming an alcoholic. How much alcohol do you consume on a daily basis? When you do drink how does it affect your behavior? How does it affect your job and family? These are just some of the crucial questions that a person must answer honestly when evaluating the disease. There is no magic pill to cure the disease of alcoholism, but rather treatments in sobriety for the mind, body and spirit.
There are stark differences between the alcoholic and the social drinker. For instance, a social drinker may consume a small amount of alcohol in moderation without any negative consequences to his or her life. The alcoholic consumes sundry amounts of drinks and lives life in the wake of total devastation. The disease of alcoholism has no boundaries or rules, hence knows no responsibility and positive function. Without constructive treatment, the addicted will find themselves facing jails, institutions and eventually death.

"Drinking can be beneficial or harmful, depending on your age and health status, the situation, and of course, how much you drink" (Omnigraphics).
The mental risks include Cognitive functioning of the brain, which affects learning capacity and memory. Wernicke - Korsakoff syndrome, or called Alcoholic Encephalopathy; is a brain condition due to low thiamine levels, or B1 vitamins and is frequently diagnosed in alcoholics.
