Rick's Top 40 Favourite TSC Songs of 2016..

13 ricktworick1, Jan 20, 2017

TSC group link: http://www.tengaged.com/group/3616
Notes:
- All songs sent in between TSC 226 to 264 are eligible
- This is based on my personal opinion - I mean there's a reason it's MY LIST. Please do not take any offense from what I think of. Strictly my own thoughts
- Contrary to some weird belief, I don't believe that my music taste is better than anyone else's, although I have no idea if it's useful to post that because every year there are some idiots crying about their songs not being appreciated enough. This list is for you all to have some fun and laugh at possible comments I make.
- I also include some of my own entries, but don't worry, I'm not that arrogant to have more than 10 entries about myself
12. Elle King - America's Sweetheart - #Monrooster, TSC231, 3rd, 89 pts

Well, initially this entry won TSC231, but Mon's failure to vote before the deadline resulted in the deduction of the three highest point-scores from the final score, which caused the push from 1st to 3rd. However, it should stand that this was definitely the best song from that contest. I didn't fully enjoy it at first, while the buildup is brilliant, her vocal olympics are a bit tiring, especially when she has to strain her voice during the chorus. Eventually, I got quite used to it, and boy has it grown on me. I originally thought that this was quite inferior to Ex's & Oh's and as you can see by the rank, that also changed.
11. MO - Final Song - #Slice, TSC236, 8th, 90 pts

Hey Slice, you don't have to fucking wait anymore you cretin. Why? Because MO's "Final Song" (not her actual last song, thank god for that) is one of the best interpretations of tropical house of 2016. Why? The pop-tropical verses are created in a way that it flows so well with the pre-chorus and the tropical house drop, and the most surprising isong is that this amazing tune was sent by someone as vile as you, Slice. Also helping the case is probably the fact that last year she was in Bristol and I attended her concert - she had such great stage presence and energy and even her mediocre songs like "Drum" sounded good live. Let's just hope that her standards are still going to be high after that...
10. Margaret - Cool Me Down - #Fritzyyyyy, TSC226, 1st, 138 pts

The Polish public fucking sucks ass in terms of having any idea on how a proper Eurovision song should sound like. The viewers decided that it would have been better to send a boring 80s styled ballad with an extremely basic structure that even my mom was able to predict - the only reason why we got top 10 last year was mainly because of the viewers votes mostly being bombarded by Polish immigrants living abroad. Just imagine what could have happened had Margaret won the Polish National Selection, this brilliant Hey Mama-esque tune with Rihanna-styled vocals..

My Top 50 TSC Songs (3-1)

6 krrais, May 15, 2016

3. Jacob Banks - "Move With You", submitted by ricktworick1 in TSC 174, placed 2nd with 144 points (12 points given)

Ok scratch my previous comment, he IS the best male vocal TSC has discovered. Well.. it is arguable but NO TSC male artist has amazed me so much every time they get entered. This guy always delivers. After a captivating slow song that is "Worthy" he came with this fun, upbeat, groovy song that is perfect in every aspect. His vocal? Check. The arrangement? Check. I have really nothing else to say about this fantastic piece of music other than.. perfection.
2. Civil Twilight - "Human", submitted by Monrooster in TSC 161, placed 3rd with 118 points (7 points given)

Easily one of the most beautiful songs ever written. No other TSC song has relate so much to my real life. And this was it. This is the anthem of me. Had I understood the song earlier I would've given this my 13, but hey! Everyone makes mistakes, and I made up for it and put this on my top 3 TSC songs, and it truly deserves it :)
And coming in at 1st

1. Delta Rae - "If I Loved You" (Ft. Lindsey Buckingham), submitted by TolisKalkas in TSC 125, placed 4th with 85 points (12 points given)

This is always the winner right here, NO CONTEST. It has everything I want in a song, cheesy lyrics, powerful lead vocal, laid-back verses with kicking chorus, sweet instrumentals, thumping beat, gospel background vocals and the ~FEEL~. And did I mention what genre this is? This literally gave me chill and had me excited with myself the first time I heard it. This is also one of the absolute reasons why I stick with TSC, because I could always rely on TSC people for supplying me with good music, thanks, you never disappoint, yes you!

And that's it, my complete list. This was fun and exciting at first but it got dull in the middle and I took lots of breaks, I'm sorry for that :P I'm definitely NOT a good blogger, but it was nice to share my favorite songs from TSC, looking forward to see yours as well :)

My Top 50 TSC Songs (34-31)

3 krrais, Apr 17, 2016

34. Martin Luke Brown - "Nostalgia", submitted by BlueStar in TSC 177, placed 6th with 78 points (12 points given)

This is the song I play after a long day and just want to relax. It has a very chill vibe to it. It doesn't have acrobatic vocals or complicated instrumentals, it's just that hipnotizing.
33. Matthieu Mendès - "Okay" (Feat. Pomme), submitted by patrick319 in TSC 148, placed 1st with 125 points (12 points given)

Always excited for a french song. More excited for a song with both english and french :p at least I know a little what they're saying. This is super fun and incredibly catchy. It also has that french-guitar thingy that makes this a very sweet song.
32. Ruen Brothers - "Walk Like a Man", submitted by Monrooster in TSC 131, placed 5th with 90 points (12 points given)

It's weird, it's different, but I dig this. It sounds like it should be in a 50s movie, and a badass one.
31. Fenech-Soler - "Magnetic", submitted by AlphaBravo in TSC 123, placed 1st with 150 points (5 points given)

Gotye meets Calvin Harris? Yes please! This was my first Fenech-Soler song I heard and it lead me to adore them and their other stuffs. Pretty great vibe and it never gets boring.

Rick's Top 40 Favourite TSC Songs of 2015..

28. Robin Schulz - Sugar (feat. Francesco Yates)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvC_0foemLY
Sent by #Monrooster in TSC211, placed 4th with 80 points.
This isn't an original song, but a great remastered version of Baby Bash's classic rap hit "Suga Suga." However, instead of lazy rapping, we get an actual vocal sang by someone who looks like a failed case of puberty, and the rap beat is replaced by a continuous melodic line, the same as heard in the original. This is such a feel-good song after all, but I cannot get over how TERRIBLE of appearance Francesco's got. Oh dear.
27. Florence + The Machine - Which Witch
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTLzqke528Y
Sent by #NerdBird44 in TSC208, placed 8th with 79 points.
This song was never fully released, the version that is out there is just a demo. That's a shame, because the demo itself sounds absolutely amazing, and I just wonder what are the reasons behind not finishing this gem. This is one of the very few good songs from Florence's recent album, with the eerie, mysterious feeling during the verses changing into an explosive chorus of strong vocal and faster beat. Damn.
26. Zara Larsson - Lush Life
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tD4HCZe-tew
Sent by #ricktworick1 in TSC212, placed 2nd with 94 points.
Zara can't win a contest to save her life, in all the 2015 TSCs she participated in she got SECOND. Even the nip slip in the video was not enough to win the crowd over, but that shouldn't matter when the song is SO GOOD. Great little pop track which actually shows how such music should be produced. I am also glad that this gem made Zara quite mainstream, and that means she will probably continue following the pop-oriented route, which means more good music from her!
25. Kodaline - High Hopes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4povfmX144
Sent by #Nerdbird44 in TSC207, placed 3rd with 109 points.
You probably did not see that one coming. I usually hate ballads with passion, but this one completely won me over. The rest of the TSC community also seemed to really enjoy this tune. The reason behind it is the great emotional delivery together with some great backing track that keeps the song actually interesting throughout, despite sounding a bit slowish at times. It's a pity that many ballads can't sound like this, but you can't really have it all I..

Top 30 TSC Songs since my start: #15-#13

6 ricktworick1, Jan 9, 2015

Notes:
- This is obviously my own opinion, why in the world would I make this list if it wasn't subjective?
- I've started my TSC journey in 2011, from TSC60, so obviously many other good songs might be missing.
- I might be a bit harsh on some stuff, so do not take it personally.
- I will include some of my songs, but this isn't going to be all about me list at all.
15. Cher Lloyd - Sirens
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyqFA0JGc-o
Sent by #Monrooster in TSC162, finished 6th with 87 points.
Cher Lloyd was an artist I initially had no hopes for at all. "Swagger Jagger" was unlistenable, "With Ur Love" was lovingly boring. While "Want U Back" was decent, the producers decided to ruin it with some rapper that had nothing to do with the song, thankfully fixed that in the US version of the song. While we thought she'd go on to release good music, it was decided that the next release would be something as terrible as "Oath" was. Then when "Sirens" came into TSC, I nearly fell out of my chair, realising how amazing and sincere this song is. It's such a shame that her best song, which "Sirens" undoubtedly is, has never made a breakthrough on the charts. She basically sang an almost perfect pop ballad. Please, release more such stuff!
14. London Grammar - Wasting My Young Years
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkeDBwsIaZw
Sent by Oleary91 in TSC119, finished 8th with 67 points.
While we're onto ballads, most of the stuff released from that genre are usually utter crap. The producers want the singers to vocalwank as much as possible, keeping the focus of the songs on the vocal, relying on nothing else, giving the releases no musical value at all. However, this single (and Sirens) is one of the very few exceptions when ballads are done the way they are supposed to be done. The focus isn't only on the voice (although you must admit it's really emotional). Honestly, it's great that there are some artists, who still know how to make great music by using both the instruments and their vocals together, as I am tired of the vocalwank that Mariah Carey tortures us with.
13. Wilkinson - Afterglow
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7PRh7ZQlss
Sent by #BlueStar in TSC141, finished 2nd with 106 points.
Straight-up Drum n Bass from the very start to the end. This genre isn't usually my cup of tea at all, I usually find most of the releases from that kind of music messy to the point that it's unbearable. One of the biggest advantages this song has got is the fact that it is sung by Becky Hill - you could say she sounds like pre-mature Adele, and I can agree with that, but the difference is that Adele's songs focus too much solely on her vocal performance, while "Afterglow" revolves on both the background and main. I didn't put the music video version, as the single there is cut short, and the longer version just sounds much better. However, if you are a fan..

Top 30 TSC Songs since my start: #18-#16

18. Chloe Howl - Paper Heart
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxrYmYyRMZk
Sent by Ricktworick1 in TSC147, finished 2nd with 101 points.
A self-proclaimed "Fresh Lily Allen", this female pop singer has got a lot of masterpieces to offer. Paper heart is arguably her best release, filled with shade towards her ex-lover. I love her accent and phrasing, for some reason it adds even more substance to this piece of art that this synthpop song is. That kind of cockney stuff annoys Bibbs the most, though, so I knew I'd get a 0 from her!
17. Sia - Chandelier
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vjPBrBU-TM
Sent by #Monrooster in TSC156, finished 1st with 143 points.
To be quite honest, I wasn't really fond of this song when it was initially sent into TSC due to the use of autotune during the pre-chorus. However, when the MV was released, I had to re-assess my opinion, as I found the song to be magnificent together with the music video. The emotional song with the metaphors, written by some kind of song-writing master. Sia's voice is a killer, her highest notes are pure beauty, and now I find the use of auto-tune in this single very smart indeed.
16. The Neighbourhood - Sweater Weather
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCdwKhTtNNw
Sent by #Bibbles in TSC100, finished 7th with 77 points.
We always bicker at Bibb's performances in the contest, as she usually ends up in the bottom 10. She was even able to finish behind a joke act that Lady Goo Goo was (never forget), so her hopes for good placings in TSCs usually do not last long. However, that was not the case in one of the biggest TSCs that ever happened. It might sound like another indie-esque song that was usually sent during those times, but the fast pace and the sound, which didn't remind me of anything else, but great oldies was enough for the song to be on this list that high.
