DS Yoshi Falls
This is such a lulzy track. It is really simple, both in design and difficulty, but at the same time I don't really mind it? A few of the coursed ranked below this are long, boring and tedious to play, but with 25-30 second laps I really don't have a problem playing this track. There's nothing really to it, but if there's going to be filler tracks they may as well be short so I think this track achieves its purpose. It's also pretty pleasant, with cute music and it's aesthetically fine. There's definitely nothing that makes this track stand out, but at the same time it's over quickly and inoffensive, which I'd rather have than tracks that are both long and boring.

GCN Waluigi Stadium
Another track that people may be a little surprised to be eliminated this early. In the same vein as Toad's factory, there's an argument to be made that this track would be objectively ranked higher. This track isn't bad by any means. Stand out features include the music, the piranha plant pipes section and the audience cheers when doing a trick off a ramp. Nevertheless, this track gets really repetitive in my opinion. I haven't played the game in 6-7 years now, so this is kind of a non-issue, but I remember being very jaded by this track lol. As a result, it's probably one of my least played tracks in the whole game. It's hard to pinpoint what exactly what my problem with it is, but I think it's a combination of the design and track layout just not being very interesting. It would be fine to play once in a blue moon, but even after so long I don't really miss it, so I have to eliminate it here.

GCN Mario Circuit
There's not a whole lot to discuss with this track. I think that it's a little bit more enjoyable than other racetracks in the game such as Mario Circuit and Luigi Circuit, with some added elements such as the chain chopper and the piranhas which add a little bit more dimension. I think there's an overall cheerful vibe to this track, with some perky music and cutesy design. That being said, I'd consider this track to be pretty inoffensive rather than exciting. It's a little bit sleepy and immemorable. It's definitely a filler track, but I wouldn't mind playing it so I think it serves this purpose quite well. Overall, I think there's no reason to dislike this track, but there are certainly more exciting ones in the game.

Toad's Factory
Okay, let me start by saying that objectively this track doesn't deserve to be in the bottom 5. There are definitely other tracks that are less original, but this is a subjective ranking and I'd be lying if I said I didn't really dislike this track lol. Something about this track has always rubbed me the wrong way and it's really the only track in the game that I wouldn't be happy to play. I will give it credit in that the concept and design of this track has some originality. The cargo area over the water in particular is quite nice. But for whatever reason, this track as a whole has always bored me to tears. Despite the track being very busy, it track still manages to feel very static and one dimensional to me. Additionally, the construction/mud section at the end is just a chore to play. So although the track is not necessarily designed poorly, I just don't have fun playing it. I don't think I can rank it any higher because I will at least tolerate pretty much every other course. I can understand the appeal, it's just not for me.

This track is just more fodder in my opinion. It's a little bit more dynamic than the 3 tracks before, but for the most part it just kind of fades into the background. I wouldn't even say there's anything particularly bad or off-putting, just that it doesn't have very much going for it. I'm not the biggest fan of racetrack courses in general because they all seem to blend into one, and there's not really anything distinguishing about this course. I guess the warp pipe at the end is a nice touch (if that's even what it's supposed to be?). The music is quite nice too but I'm left scratching my head trying to find other positive things to say. Overall I think it is just a little sub-par.

GBA Shy Guy Beach
For me, GBA Shy Guy Beach has always been the single most forgettable track in the whole game. Whenever I played the Banana cup, I’d be surprised every time this track came up.. not a good sign! On top of that, I have a few issues with the track in general.
There is a really poor shortcut balance in that there are way too many opportunities to get ahead. The track is essentially just a circle, and sticking to the inside of this circle can pretty much guarantee you will be in 1st because the water does not slow you down. Particularly towards the end of each lap as you approach the finish line, sticking to the left/inside of the green patch will put you too far ahead. This takes away any real competition in a race if you are just playing against the computer. Apart from that, what else is there to even say? The track design is uninspiring, the aesthetic is distinctly average and the music is sleepy. This track is ultimately spared from a last place finish due to the exploding Shy Guy Gallion cannonballs and the crabs which add at least something reasonable, even if these elements are mediocre at best.
Overall, I think GBA Shy Guy Beach just does not have enough substance to prevent it from being bland and overlooked.

Mario Circuit
Design wise, Mario Circuit is miles ahead of Luigi Circuit. The general aesthetic of the track is very pretty with rainbows and a cute village at the beginning. So why is Mario Circuit in 31st place? Well, beating Luigi Circuit isn’t much of an accomplishment, and it’s pretty boring to play. The track is essentially a figure of 8, and sure there are some obstacles like the goombas and a chainchomp, but these are very easy to avoid. The track is very straightforward and even a beginner to Mario kart could probably master it in no time. It really doesn’t have anything to make it stand out in a game where there are so many high calibre tracks. Another downside for Mario Circuit is that it does not even have its own music, the exact same music track is used in Luigi Circuit.
So although I can appreciate the appearance of Mario Circuit, it’s not enough to save it from being generally forgettable and not much fun to play. A fitting place to hold the award ceremonies though!

To commemorate Mario Kart Wii turning 10 years old this year, I have decided to rank and give my opinions on each of the 32 tracks. I haven’t played the game for around 6 or 7 years now but it’s probably my favourite video game from my childhood. There are some great and not-so-great tracks, so let’s rank the best and worst of MKWii!

Luigi Circuit
Oh Luigi Circuit.. this should really not come as a surprise lol. Being the first track of the Mushroom cup, this will be the first track that most people encounter in Mkwii. Therefore, Luigi Circuit has the important job of introducing players to both the game and controls, and so of course the track has to be very straightforward and easy to navigate. It serves this purpose well, but once you become familiar with the game this track doesn't have very much going for it... or really anything going for it? Simplistic tracks can work well, but there is really nothing that makes playing this track exciting. It's not even that the design or music is necessarily bad, it's just that nothing stands out in any way to me. You go around in a circle for 30 secs, then again, and then you're finished... yay?! It's also pretty difficult to separate from the pack due to there being essentially no shortcuts, so lap 3 involves a lot of luck. If you happen to get a bullet bill, star or golden mushroom power-up during the last 10 seconds you can easily snag 1st place despite being in last for the whole race.
Overall, I feel Luigi Circuit falls short but for better or worse, it will always be notorious.
