Thinking about

1 CheapCheep, May 25, 2020

How I want to covey poll results in a meaningful way for #10DaysOfTengaged.
Usually I post an essay of a blog that shows all the different thoughts and ideas people have had, but genuinely the whole thing feels like a tl:dr that I can't bring myself to condense.
I've been mailing results to randomize, which has worked well in getting a response but I do think it's important to share the thoughts and ideas behind polls with the community. Thought maybe I could do like an audio podcast type of set-up but not sure if it'd even be worth the effort to make and produce.
Thoughts? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Been talking with Randomize

61 CheapCheep, May 25, 2020

And one of the ideas he's been bringing up is making a new game that could *possibly* replace fastings/rookies. There's a lot of different game ideas that exist, and I've noted a few, but i'd like to get a few more ideas in before posting a poll to #10DaysOfTengaged to have people vote upon it.
A few ideas I've seen/heard:
A spin-off of The Amazing Race
A spin-off of The Challenge
A Sole Survivor type game (Something closer to home to the Survivor we know)
Maybe something that's similar to "The Duel", but updated to be more exciting (?).
There's hundreds of other ideas for games, and personally I want to hear as many game ideas as I can before creating a poll to see what users respond to most. So please comment below some of your ideas for future games, and if I see any gaining a lot of traction i'll include it as an option in the newest poll being made.
(Also if you haven't voted in the latest poll, i'd appreciate if you did here: https://tengaged.com/group/6208-10-days-tengaged/poll/removing-incentives-multi-creation-will-reduce-multi-use-see-comments-149651 )

~ A New Era of Games for Tengaged ~

4 CheapCheep, May 16, 2020

Over the last 10 days I've been polling users about what they want kind of games they'd prefer to see in the future of Tengaged. An astonishing 165 users voted, and I have the results!
.
.
.
.
.
.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*** More Games, but made less complex: 65.9% ; 109 votes ***
Less Games, but made more complex: 24.4% ; 40 votes
No change from the current games: 9.8% ; 16 votes
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The age old "quantity vs. quality" debate is in session, and it seems when it comes to new games on the site that more = merrier according to the vast majority of users. While many of us would love to see increases in both quality and quantity, the time sacrifice required of each leaves users aching for something new and now. Users want a large variety of options to choose from, and they want to have plenty of activities to do on a daily basis in order to continue coming back to Tengaged and investing more time and energy into their games.
We saw in a recent comment from randomize that he would love to develop new games for the site, but they would come at the cost of removing games we've known to love over time, like Fastings/Castings, Rookies/Frookies, and so on. This created a very negative reaction from users, who felt they were being deprived of games they've been playing for the last few years.
RedFabFoxy summed up the idea best in his comment, stating "People love variety/new stuff, removing games would anger/drive off people". These types of comments painted a clear image that users want variety, and something new and shiny to latch on to as quickly as possible.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That being said, we saw many users stating that the question in itself left out an important detail. Multis. We love to hate them. If a new game were to be developed, it would simply be overrun with multiple accounts and the charm for something new would likewise die out quicker than Sarah's fire in a F4 fire-making showdown. Users like etaco75, Kiara_xoxo, tonyalbright and Aquamarine stated the importance of handling the multi epidemic before shifting focus to new games.
I did reach out to voters later on to ask if they were to lose a game during the process of developing a new one, which would it be? A small sample size indicated games like Fastings (with 7/12 votes; 58.33%) and Rookies (with 4/12 votes; 33.33%) would be first on the list of games to drop. In addition, a large majority agreed that the development of a new game would boost activity and keep users coming back...

If Anyone Cares...

9 CheapCheep, Jun 30, 2019

So, until further notice, it seems I will no longer be conducting polls for #10DaysOfTengaged. I've found myself extremely busy with work and life, and it's not something that I can balance effecitvely.
In addition, it's hard to advocate for changes, and promise new life for Tengaged, when the main programmer fails to acknowledge several e-mails sent throughout the last few weeks. I am willing to return to doing these polls IF randomize returns to the site and responds to the e-mails I have sent him.
I believe it'd be extremely unfair of myself or moderators to make promises that can't be made at the site's current state. I am extremely thankful and appreciative of all your feedback and comments made during the last few months, and it's all worth hanging on to. I just can't keep balancing a busy schedule with polls that aren't being recognized or reviewed by the main person in charge.
I hope you all can respect that. I have enjoyed doing the polls and finding data nonetheless, and if nothing else comes out from this experience, i'm sure someone out there will find it useful for a future date. I've been very patient and understanding of randomize, however he refuses to acknowledge any e-mails sent both from myself and the moderators who have done their best to uphold the site as long as they can.
I still have hope for this website. I know what Tengaged is capable of and what the people are capable of creating. I know there's bad apples out there that have ruined this experience, and seeing them get by scot-free has taken a toll on many. I'm continuing to push for these kinds of changes, despite the lack of involvement from Carlos.
In any case, thanks to all that have voted. I will keep 10DoT on the back burner for a future day, when these polls have more power within the community to make a positive change. I appreciate those who've done anything and everything they can to voice their opinions, and I won't let these voices be lost. This site's still worth something to me, and it's still worth some effort. But I can only do so much and get so little.
Much love to you all.

Changing Things Up

0 CheapCheep, Jun 23, 2019

Going to go down from 2 polls every 10 days down to 1 for #10DaysOfTengaged.
It's getting tricky balancing my personal life with everything, and without any sort of formal reply from randomize i'm a bit stuck at the moment.
Hope y'all understand? I imagine most people reading don't care or won't notice but just wanted to make a blog about it real quick.

~Old Challenges VS. New Challenges~

11 CheapCheep, Jun 17, 2019

It's time to settle the debate. Over the last 10 days I've been asking Tengaged which they prefer. Old challenges? Or newer challenges? Over 105 of you responded, and I have the results!
Old Challenges (Numbers, Maze, Endurance, etc.): 43.8%
New Challenges (Find Me, Count Me, Zoo, etc.): 16.2%
It's 50/50 for me: 25.7%
Didn't Play Older Challenges: 14.3%
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Each era of new challenges has had their pros and cons, but it would seem that the older challenges still stand out to users versus their newer counterparts we see on the site today. Does this mean we should go back to the way things were? Well, not necessarily.
While a large portion of users do prefer the older challenges, it should be noted that the older competitions faced tremendous amounts of difficulties. They weren't able to be played through a mobile device, and many were susceptible to cheat engines. Games like Lineballs and Match3 for instance were notorious for being glitched, resulting in low competition scores through a system that no one user had control over.
Similar to the older challenges, newer comps seen today face their own difficulties. Users like Rperduex11 noted that "The new ones don't differ very much from pressing a button or picking something from a crowd. The old ones were all distinct". The newer challenges seen today, while less glitchy and more cheat-proof, do feel samey and stale. All challenges seem to feel one in the same, and it's a concept that users will either love dearly or hate vigorously.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So what can be done to remedy the situation? Well for starters, the website may benefit from keeping a combination of newer and older challenges. By removing the duplicates and modifying challenges that were either glitched or able to be cheated, we can form a more cohesive group of challenges that all players can enjoy. Voters noted that part of the reason they love one group of challenges versus another is because they require a level of skill. It encourages players to keep playing and continue getting better at the competitions. By finding the best challenges from each era, and combining them, we can form a list of incredibly competitive and addictive competitions that test players on all fronts.
While new players might find difficulty going up against the challenge beasts, there's nothing that stopped a user from loading up some of the demo versions of challenges, and allowing them to continue practicing and honing in on their skills. Where are those demos now? Why can't something like this be implemented for the newer challenges? These small add-ons can drive users to push themselves towards new high scores, and entice users to keep getting better at everything from Zoo..

~Should There Be More Color Levels?~

4 CheapCheep, Jun 12, 2019

Over the last 10 days, I've been asking Tengagers if they think we should put in more color levels past TV star! Over 105 users responded, and I have the results!
Agree to some extent: 57.6%
Disagree to some extent: 32.1%
Neither Agree nor Disagree: 10.4%
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A lot of strong opinions on this lighthearted topic! Although just over half of users agree there should be more color levels, it should be noted 83% of those who agreed, agree strongly. So what should these new color levels be (if any)?
Rperduex11 brought forward an interesting concept, a prestige based system for color levels. "It’s been proposed plenty of times, but I think it would be simple to do the prestige system. So after TV star level, you would go back to white, but you’d get an emblem of some type (perhaps a star) that signifies that the user has passed TV Star". Certainly an easy way to stir more activity on the site and get players joining games again to rise through the ranks. Who wouldn't want to be the first player to make it to a prestige TV star level?
Many players also stated that they believe more color levels should be introduced, considering the amount of TV star users who have nowhere else to go, nor any other ranks worth aspiring towards.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Although many agreed, there were plenty of users with strong opinions against new color levels. Another interesting concept was brought forward by EmzThorne, who stated "Color Levels are boring... I think we should have Icons next to our Colour Level for like breaking records, or just something that isn't color levels. Something else to achieve rather than just Karma, Karma, Karma". Another interesting and easy way to customize users profiles. Why not have users win a little pin/tag to put on their profile when they win Stars? Something like "I finished 1st in Stars #123". These achievements could be acquired for all sorts of games, even group games could bring out some neatly designed pins for profiles.
All of these kinds of ideas are easy ways to spur users into action, and hopefully aid games that need to fill faster. Obviously there is still the current issue of multis and cheaters, and those will need to be taken care of before these new solutions can be implemented. But certainly it'd be an easy way to get Tengaged active again among all types of users.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In any case, what are your thoughts about the addition of new color levels? Should we introduce a prestige system? An achievement system with pins and badges? Maybe even both, or something entirely different! Let me know your thoughts..

~Does Tengaged Still Have Potential?~

5 CheapCheep, Jun 7, 2019

Over the last 10 days, I've been asking Tengaged whether or not they believe that Tengaged still has the potential to be a huge success for the community of reality show enthusiasts. Over 95 of you responded, and the results are in!
Agree to some extent: 68.3%
Disagree to some extent: 24.4%
Neither agree nor disagree: 7.1%
(0.2% left out due to rounding)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's no surprise to anyone that Tengaged still lacks many major components to propel the website to new heights. However, it would seem that most users are willing to look past the many faults of the website, as they believe Tengaged still has amazing potential to be a huge success. So what's holding us back?
Undoubtedly, most comments point the finger to randomize for remaining largely absent and rarely involved with Tengaged. It's certainly not a bold statement to make, considering the last major update for the website occurred over a year ago, back in April 2018. Issues with the site have trickled down from the top, and have resulted in moderators being unable to carry out their jobs, and Tengaged being massively ignored as a result.
But don't just take my word for it. Here's a direct quote from brandonpinzu. "[Tengaged] has a lot of potential, if randomize put effort in. The site is really outdated looks-wise. We haven't had any new updates in a long while and obviously there is the moderation issue. The summer is the perfect time to do this, but it's unlikely to happen".
If Tengaged is going to become as big as we know it's capable of being, the website is in dire need of some TLC (Tengaged Love & Care). With randomize so busy in his daily life, these issues continue resulting in countless users giving up hope, and leaving the site altogether. It's up to him to begin taking actions to make our website an amazing experience again.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So what comes first? Well for starters, randomize should absolutely begin investing his trust into specific users and groups of people who are willing to take on the immeasurable responsibility of rebuilding the Tengaged foundation. We understand life happens, and it's hard to keep up. So why not start seeking out people who can and are willing to propel Tengaged to new heights? Restoring moderation is a key part of the process, but what comes after the ban-pocalypse is equally important. How do we take Tengaged and make it better than before?
Previous users like Jubbzy were known to hold a lot of power in determining the future of Tengaged. Since then, randomize has seemed reluctant to relax his grip on the website and invest time into designating responsible individuals who can take Tengaged a step further. There's..

~Do Daily Rewards Really Work?~

8 CheapCheep, Jun 2, 2019

Over the last 10 days I've been asking Tengaged whether or not they feel a daily rewards system would entice them to continuously return to the website. Over 100 of you responded, and I have the results!

Agree to some extent: 82.2%
Disagree to some extent: 7.9%
Neither Agree nor Disagree: 9.9%
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Is there something to be learned from the many other websites who implement daily rewards programs? Frankly, yes. With well over 80% of users stating that a daily rewards system would entice them to keep logging on and checking Tengaged every day, it seems like a no-brainer. But are there better ways to reward users than simply logging on, collecting their reward and then logging back off? Peace123 believes so.
In Peace's own words, "I would just log in for whatever reward it is and then log out unless i plan to do something like blog or play a game. I think a better option would be daily goals instead of rewards, like "Make a blog" earns you 1T, "Enroll in a game" earns you 1T, etc. It would make the site more lively (or at least feel more lively) as there are actually hundreds of "active" users on tengaged who play group games/lower levels that don't enroll in games or post on the blogs page that makes the site feel very dead."
A goal-based system would certainly encourage more users to put in the effort to remaining active on Tengaged. The types of goals could fluctuate daily to allow more unique opportunities for users to meet their daily quotas. Why not implement bigger weekly goals that allow bigger karma/T$ rewards? Perhaps the weekly goal for one week could be to obtain a set amount of karma from games. If you met the goal, you could expect to receive a bonus.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But let's pretend for a second that we did have a "reward wheel" for logging in (as featured on sites like the notorious "Z that shall not be named"). How does randomize profit from a system that continuously outputs more money into the Tengaged economy? Well, there are a few ways.
First off, many sites enjoy having a "buffed-up" wheel that users can spin again, with bigger rewards and better opportunities to earn more money. A daily rewards wheel would likely include smaller T amounts, since it's free to play and can be spinned every 24 hours. So after that, why not offer a bigger and better wheel, where users have the chance to earn 100T's? Maybe they can even earn discounts for items purchased through shops? Or even a chance to give away a free design? Who knows what kind of rewards could be included!
In addition, unkown brought up a very simplistic way for randomize to get his share of wealth...

Concerning 10 Days of Tengaged...

6 CheapCheep, Jun 2, 2019

First off, a huge thanks to everyone who's been voting in the group's polls over the last weeks, and who have continually provided feedback for me to make better and more engaging polls.
I've been contacting randomize through his e-mail when I've been able to, and I've brought up the main concerns that many of you have left on various polls, through messages, and by any other means. It's been difficult to establish a connection like what I had originally hoped for, however i'm doing my best to continually reach out and provide him with information to hopefully make the website better.
Things have been getting very busy for me in my personal life, and running this group by myself can be a challenge at times. Between the ongoing polls, various subject matters, e-mail exchanges, and all the components that I can't even get into, it's getting difficult to juggle. And since I just got a new job, things are bound to get even more problematic.
So there's a couple of options on what to do here. I can either...
A: Reduce the number of polls back down to 1 for every 10 days.
B: Find other people who are willing to help me carry out the various responsibilities of the group.
C: Encourage more people to leave ideas for future polls on the group's front page, so I know where to focus my efforts.
I'm unsure which course of action to take. I have loved taking on this "mini-project", and I feel like I've made progress to bring Tengaged back up again. While there are times I might be frustrated, and feel like I should do more, there's really only so much I can do alone. So i'm leaving the choice up to you guys.
If it would interest you to help me with this group, please shoot me a message or maybe leave a comment on this blog. I have to be extremely picky about who I allow to help alongside me with #10DaysOfTengaged, since it does require quite a bit of time and dedication. If you want to get involved, but not so heavily, please leave any idea(s) within the link below.
https://tengaged.com/group/6208-10-days-tengaged/forum/topic/22497234
The last course of action I want to take is reducing the number of polls. There's still many questions to ask, and there's a lot more work to be done and improved upon. If it becomes necessary for me to balance work and life, it's one I may have to take.
Regardless, thank you all for your continued support during the last months. I hope I can keep working with Carlos to get some of these ideas into motion!

~Ever Think About Leaving?~

4 CheapCheep, May 29, 2019

Over the last 10 days I've been asking Tengaged users if they've recently had thoughts about quitting or leaving the site altogether. Over 105 of you responded, and I have the (slightly troubling) results!
Agree to some extent: 80.4%
Disagree to some extent: 16.8%
Neither agree nor disagree: 2.8%
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you've been on this site long enough, you know Tengaged isn't what it used to be. Games that once had charm are now riddled with multis and premades. Blog page traffic has gone considerably down, and the large fanbase of Tengaged users has considerably thinned out. What's strikingly concerning is just how poor the situation has gotten, given that over 4/5 users have thought about leaving Tengaged altogether.
The fact that the percentage is so high should greatly concern randomize, since an active fanbase is what ensures that your website will be around for years to come. So what's the specific cause of people's willingness to leave? Well, let's list them out!
Among the main reasons, users want to quit Tengaged as a result of...
- Lack of moderation
- Vast amount of multiple accounts
- Games are "stale", and updates are few and far in between.
- Long wait times to play games.
- Constant negativity from other users
- Friends / Group Game Hosts have already left
- Loss of interest
And while there are a small percentage of users who state that none of these issues bother them enough to consider leaving, most of Tengaged is understandably frustrated. All of the issues boil down to a severe lack of involvement coming from randomize. And while there may be a number of things ongoing in Carlos's life that make involvement extremely difficult, his website is suffering without him.
Issues concerning the mod panel have been made undoubtedly clear, therefore moderation cannot take action the way they would hope to. As a result of no moderation, the amount of multis and issues concerning "hacking" have skyrocketed. Because more games have more multis, less people feel the need to play them. Because less people are playing games, you're left with a fanbase of users who breed negativity when they feel the site has failed to meet their needs, and more people are logging out for good as a result. One issue leads to the next, and at the end we're left with less and less people feeling the need to stick around.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Randomize, if you truly want to keep Tengaged up and running, we're begging that you'll return to the site and begin taking some small steps towards improving and reviving the website. We understand that issues concerning the site aren't going to be fixed overnight. These issues are going to take lots of effort on both..

~ How Close is Too Close? ~

7 CheapCheep, May 23, 2019

Over the last 10 days, I've been asking Tengaged whether or not they believe moderators and users should, or should not be able to influence each other. Over 100 users responded, and I have the results!
Agree to some extent: 61.7%
Disagree to some extent: 24.5%
Neither agree nor disagree: 13.7%
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While the question remained open to interpretation, the main goal of this pole was to figure out what the power distance between a moderator and a user should be. Like many states, countries, and cultures, each one has their own interpretation of a safe and reasonable distance between someone of authority (like the president, boss, or in this case, a moderator) and your average everyday citizen (or in this case, user). Soooo.... why does this matter?
To make a long explanation short, a higher power distance theoretically means that a regular user should be able to trust moderation to do their job to the best of their ability without moderators turning to the public for an answer on how to move forward. With 61% of the vote, most users agree that a moderator shouldn't be influenced on how to carry out their job by the public. And yet, the feedback received from the poll seems to point the opposite direction.
Generally, most comments linked back to believing that mods should be trusted to do their jobs, but should also encourage feedback from the public when it comes to a tricky situation. Users recognize that moderation can and have made mistakes in the past, and if moderation makes a bad call, users aren't afraid to let them know about that. Take users like adeleadele for example, who stated "I think mods should have the final say of course, and i would more so trust the moderator than a random person just trying to get their bestie unbanned. Mods do fuck up though[...] so players could speak up in those circumstances".
Another great analysis of a high vs. low power distance approach, is to look at feedback from users like iYBF. As someone who strongly disagreed with the statement, he mentions "Especially when the moderators are essentially just users themselves, users and moderators should have a relationship where feedback is taken seriously as the users are really the people who keep this site going." Most comments left on the poll made note that moderators are users too. These types of comments typically point to a preference of a low power distance approach to moderation, where players should be able to freely question the judgement of mods from time to time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What all these questions and feedback boil down to is if moderation should take in the opinions of the people, or take the opinions with a grain of salt. The large percentage..
