13 Districts rebelled against the Capitol, a place of power, and of horror. War raged in the country of Panem, and it would take a powerful blow to either side to end the rebellion. To quell this fighting, the Capitol ordered the bombing of District 13, obliterating it from the face of the planet.
The 12 other Districts stopped rebelling, fearing they would be destroyed, and as a fail-safe, to stop other rebellions from happening in the future, a law was decreed, that one man and woman between the ages of 12 to 18, from each District, would be sent to the Capitol to receive training in the art of battle and the skills of survival.
The 24 Tributes would then be released into an arena, where they would kill each other to be the last Tribute Standing. The Victor would receive riches beyond their wildest dreams, while the rest of the Districts would mourn for their lost ones.
This became known as... The Hunger Games!
