Challenge #5

"Gender Role Reversal"

Hi guys! For today's challenge, let's do some change of role plays. We are reversing roles (as the title says)! All girls do boys, all boys do girls. Right, we are talking about embracing your opposite gender. To explain further, you are to recreate in a photo the qualities, characteristics, etc. your opposite gender (gender of the model). Explanation is probably needed.

I will not be judging this shot, who you should impress is one of your coaches, Coach Marlon! This will be a 24 hour challenge, late submission will be a deduction on your scores.

Devon Aoki -

I definitely really struggled finding anything for this challenge, so after talking to my new coach, I decided on this shot as it very androgynous, as it has both masculinity which is the challenge and femininity - an important component of Devon's identity as a model. The femininity of the shot is almost like a caricature of a 1920-30's Jazz Age flapper and then you combine it with the masculinity of a well dressed part-time business man, part-time magician to get the end result. I wanted to stay true to Devon's femininity, but still be able to hit the brief on the head!

Shawn Mendes -

This was a tough shot to select as the theme and while it might not be the best for this challenge, I'm giving it my all. To me the oversized poncho and the way I'm leaning against the railing is somewhat feminine. In my opinion, gender should not be constrained to the cliche blue is for boys, pink is for girls. I think it should be more open minded and reflect the world we live in today. In that sense, I think this shot shows a pose and styling that could fit a female just as easily it could fit a male.

This shot was a bit tough as I have more feminine qualities. However with this shot I decided to go for a more of a serious look, and also modeled more “manly” clothes.

The thing that makes male and female different in fashion world is that their fashion kind of just that. The usual shirt and pants or something. Some of male pose is also just simple like almost most of the guys here.

So in this challenge I will show you guys what a male would wear when they took a photoshoot and then giving you male slick hair. Also the pose, I did with some usual hand gesture in that clothes and then usual male walk pose. My expression isnt as my usual expression cause I want to keep the masculinity of the clothes, shoes and the pose, just to balance those all I guess.

It has been a while since the woman's body was chosen to represent various arts. Curves and delicacy come together in something spectacular.
For this challenge I am representing the female body, something that for men has become a type of TABU, because we usually see a lot more women posing naked than men.

I want to represent all the adjectives that sum up an independent and powerful woman.

Victoria Justice-

I will say this wasn't the easiest thing to do, but I think that's a point of a challenge!
I tried to find the best photo that represented male characteristics and features.
In this photo, I found the posture and the look to really set it off. The hair tied back and the style really set the mood. In a world that is becoming more open to who people want to be, we see a lot less division and little more open minds and open hearts. Taking on the gender role, this photo could easily give off the masculine look just as it could female.

The signature pose of having your hands on your hip was adopted by feminist many centuries ago. The pose was often done by women to show off things like their outfits, to their body. It has also been done by women often as a way to express ones self. Also in this photo Miles head is slightly tilted this has often been done by women like Hilary Clinton and Oprah as a way to showcase superiority, fearlessness as well as arrogance. I think overall this was definitely a tough task to pull off but from the head and hip pose to the clothing this best showcase a feminine side of women done by a man.
