Romance of the Five Kingdoms
Objective: Attack other kingdoms while gathering resources for your Kingdom’s prosperity!

SETUP:
1.        Each player receives 3 merchants, 1 robber, and 1 spy. These are known collectively as MRS. (See ‘MRS’ section and ‘GAMEPLAY’ section for more information)
2.        There are 4 “Seasons. Each season starts with a 24-hour MRS phase, followed by 3 rounds lasting 24 hours.
3.        Each player will be designated the Kingdom of one of the following: Wood, Clay, Iron, Corn, Silk.
4.        There is one road between each kingdom. See here for visual representation http://prntscr.com/nnr3kw

ROLES
1.        There are three different Roles within the kingdoms; Merchant, Robber, or Spy
     a.        Merchants gather resources from yours and opposing kingdoms and will travel along the roads to get to each kingdom.
b.        Spies will report of how many (and whose) merchants travel between the road they are stationed on.
c.        Robbers will rob victory points from the kingdoms whose merchants travel along the road they are stationed at.

MRS PHASE
1.        The dealer will PM each player the calculation of points earned for the prior season, including robber results (See ‘SCORING’ for more information)
2.        Each player will create THREE (3) step-by-step instructions for their merchants on how to act for the upcoming season.
     a.        Instructions are either “Stay” or “Move to X”
     b.        Instructions cannot have conditions attached (cannot have “if this, then my merchant goes here”.
     c.        You may have your merchants follow the same instructions if you wish.
3.        Players will instruct their Robber and Spy to wait on the road between any two kingdoms.
     a.        The robber and spy can each wait on a different road.
4.        Players may not change their instructions for the Merchants, Robber, or Spy until the next MRS phase.

GAMEPLAY
1.        After the MRS phase has concluded, there will be 3 rounds of attacks.
2.        Players must make exactly 4 attacks. These attacks must be on at least two different kingdoms, but players may attack up to four different kingdoms.
     a.        No self-attacks allowed
3.        The Dealer will reveal all attacks made each round. A kingdom takes 1 damage for each attack received.
4.        Spies will report on how many of whose merchants moved on the road they are stationed. They will report which direction each merchant traveled as well. Spies only learn about the merchants traveling on their road they are stationed on.
5.        Merchants will follow their instructions each Round. ‘Stay’ instructs the Merchant to remain in the Kingdom and earn its resource. ‘Move to X’ instructs the Merchant to take the road into Kingdom X and earn their destination’s resource if successful.
6.        If a merchant is attempting to move to another Kingdom, but the destination attacks the merchant’s current location, or if the Merchant’s current location attacks their destination, the merchant FAILS to move, does nothing that round, and earns NO resource. They will attempt to execute the same move during the next round.
7.        After all 3 rounds of a season have concluded, all Merchants, Robbers, and Spies will be recalled to their home kingdom.
8.        If an enemy merchant moves on a road between Kingdoms where a Robber is hiding, that player’s Merchant loses 2 points to Each Robber.
9.        Merchants that do not move are unaffected by Robbers and Spies.

SCORING
1.        After each season, the Dealer will award the “Minimal Damage Bonus” to the player whose Kingdom currently has received the least total damage, which is worth 10 extra points. There are four of these rewards, once per season, worth a total of 40 points.
a.        If there is a tie, this bonus is NOT awarded.
2.        2. Players earn 1 point per resource earned.
3.        Players earn bonus points depending on the number of different foreign resources earned.
     a.        One foreign resource
              i.        1 bonus victory point per foreign resource earned
     b.        Two or more foreign resources
              i.        The most common resource will be worth 1 bonus victory point per resource
            ii.        The second most common resource will be worth 2 bonus victory points per resource.
            iii.        The third most common is worth 3 bonus victory points per resource
             iv.        The rarest resource is worth 4 victory points per resource
              v.        If there is a tie for how common a resource is, each different type of resource will be worth a different amount of bonus points. Example: A player ending with 2 Clay + 2 Iron would receive the following points: (1 resource + 1 bonus) * 2 Clay and (1 resource + 2 bonus) * 2 iron = 10 points
            vi.        Resources do NOT carry over from season to season for this scoring.
4.        Total gains and loses due to Robbers will be calculated and revealed to each player at the end of the season. Players will only know the net result and will not know who robbed them. You will know how many times you robbed someone and how many times you were robbed.
5.        Once all Seasons have concluded, the total foreign resources earned from all players will be tallied. The player who has the most of the rarest resource receives the “All-Foreign Bonus” worth an additional 10 points.
     a.        This bonus is only eligible to players who have earned at least one of ALL 4 foreign resources throughout the game.
     b.        If this is a tie, the bonus is not awarded.
     c.        You do not need a resource from your kingdom to win this bonus, but you can possess a resource from your kingdom and still win the bonus.
6.        Negative points are possible in this game.

ENDGAME
1.        Once all seasons have concluded and scores calculated, the TWO players with the most victory points wins and will play in the Winner’s Round. The other three will play in the final revival round.
     a.        The tiebreaker is least damage received. If this still fails to determine a winner, all tied players lose.
     b.        First place collects 100m from last place, and second place collects 50m from second to last place. If there is a tie such that 1st or 2nd place still loses and goes to the revival round, no payout for that position will take place.

INACTIVITY
1.        Failure to complete instructions during the MRS phase means that any roles with incomplete instructions will do nothing that season. Merchants with incomplete instructions will execute what they can and then do nothing.
2.        Failure to attack or attacking incorrectly forces your merchants to do nothing this round and you make no attacks.
     a.        If you are inactive and your Robber/Spy would activate from an opposing merchant, they will do nothing instead.
3.        The dealer will announce inactive players in the MRS and attacking rounds.
