Older Survivor Seasons

What I liked about older survivor seasons was that not every season had a particular “theme” per say. A lot of the time the season was just based around the location and there wasn’t a million and one twists.

Look at seasons like China, Pearl Islands, or Tocantins. Those seasons had a few twists here and there to shake things up, but the whole season wasn’t a million different twists where it’s just like, “Oh, another twist, whatever...”

I mean when idols were first becoming a thing, people were flipping out when one was played because there was only one or two idols in a season. I remember jumping off my couch screaming when Amanda played her idol in Micronesia!

Also these seasons were driven more by characters that were playing the game, where now there is way too much personal junk about players which can be important at sometimes but not really.

This season while I thought there were some good moves the guy winning relied on SO many advantages to get to the end. There is no way Ben wins an older season of survivor. On other seasons there was a twist or two, but they would be shocking and crazy and people would be jumping up and down when someone found an advantage.

Now everyone is just pulling advantages out of their butts left and right and now I even find myself getting disappointed when an advantage is found because why do we need even more!

Plus they have now shot four seasons in Fiji, I always thought some of the cool parts of Survivor were when people were experiencing all these cool new cultures and locations, not just another tropical beach in Fiji.

So I really hope they do a season in a new exotic location, with all new people that aren’t necessarily divided up by a theme, and there are a couple idols with one or two advantages. So the game doesn’t completely revolve around them. This way the players can make the game exciting and unfold the way they want it to.

I completely agree, and I feel like the reason CBS does that to Survivor and BB is to make the game more fresh and new instead of basic, although idm basic. A single twist used ect Saboteur, Duos/Blood vs Water, it's just a single twist that shakes it up, HvHvH was just trashy, so was BB17,18 and 19.

Basic seasons make iconic players, and show how smart people can be, not advantages making stupid people get further into the game (Paul in BB19, Ben in HvHvH)

Ghost Island is the first season since Samoa that has 20 people placed on tribes not designated by a theme. It's been like 8 years.

I very much agree. CBS has been so wrapped up in creating their own drama that they forgot about what made Survivor an amazing show, it's casting.

Also, snowflake3, RI, SP and Philippines all had tribes without themes. Just that they had a returnee on each tribe which is not much of a theme but could be included.

NewNightmare7 I said 20 people. RI/SP/PHI had 18, but agreed. I didn't count them because they weren't all newbies. Should've restated and said "first time all 20 are newbs and divided randomly."

When I first saw the divides, I was looking for reasons why they were divided they way they were. I didn't even remember in the past that it was all random.
