I was racist at work on saturday!

imageSo this shift was a saturday brunch and the table had 6 ppl, aka enough ppl to be cuntsidered a big party that i can auto-grat. I made a small miss steak and rang in an item wrong. luckily the correct item was very similar just plated differently they just had to make a waffle real quick. I split the wrong item so now this table has one check with their actual items and one check with the wrong item that i will get voided later on.

well it comes time to pay and this table wants to split their check. thats fine i put seat numbers on everything and was able to do it very easily. Before doing so i get my manager to auto grat the one ticket with the correct items. I split the check and then as im walking to the table i double check and see that i forgot to take off the wrong item on one of the tickets. I go and do that and drop the checks off

When i was dropping the checks i realize that only ONE of the two checks had the auto gratuity. In that moment i realized that since i had 2 checks at the start (one with the wrong item that i split off), when i split the checks the auto grat only stayed on the original check.

I look at the racial makeup of the table... the 4 white passing racially ambiguous hispanics get the check with no auto gratuity and the two people who get the auto gratuity are black. mess.

and THEN i went to my coworker to explain how i was just accidentally racist to this table and explained the part of how i only autogratted the black ppl... and before i could explain it was an accident and that they noticed and now think im racist she high-fived me...

i go back to the table and the non-auto grat ticket left a 0% tip jesus christ
