I would say likability, I think cocky people tend to be a bit extra whereas confident people are usually quietly confident, I feel like confidence is you think you can do something, cockiness is the mind set you've already done it before doing even doing it, if any of that makes sense lol =D
Confidence is just believing in yourself. Cockiness in some cases may not even be you beleiving in yourself, but rather acting like you do because you're insecure. Cockiness also usually includes arrogance, and confidence usually doesn't.
I think self awareness is a brilliant answer to that question and I've never looked at it that way before. FromAWindow
It's all about how you are perceived by others really, so if you aren't really accurately aware of how you communicate that "confidence" I could see where that leads to others coining someone "cocky"
True greyconverse, and also a person who is self aware can be able to communicate assertively instead of overly aggressive, which leads to being labeled as “confident”.
Confidence is shown as a positive trait.
