Notes:
- All songs sent in between TSC 226 to 264 are eligible
- This is based on my personal opinion - I mean there's a reason it's MY LIST. Please do not take any offense from what I think of. Strictly my own thoughts
- Contrary to some weird belief, I don't believe that my music taste is better than anyone else's, although I have no idea if it's useful to post that because every year there are some idiots crying about their songs not being appreciated enough. This list is for you all to have some fun and laugh at possible comments I make.
- I also include some of my own entries, but don't worry, I'm not that arrogant to have more than 10 entries about myself
16. Alex Newell - This Ain't Over - #Insanity, TSC230, 1st, 104 pts
The one person that is definitely not going to be happy with the fact that this song is featured on my favourite songs list is likely to be #onemanarmy who does not like the operatic style of Alex Newell's singing. Yeah, I do agree that his vocal is prominent in a way that it could be a bit overbearing at times, however, it's done in a sensible way that supports the context of the song, especially the production. It's just a pity that the drop is another example of half-assed effort, but that's about the only thing that annoys me about this. Meanwhile, you can all enjoy this masterpiece (or not).
15. Alma - Karma - #Monrooster, TSC240, 3rd, 95 pts
When this was first entered into TSC, it came without a music video - the appearance of this artist was not known until the release of the visual. To come to the realisation that a singer with this great vocal looks like a fatter version of Elle King with terrible styling on hair (I mean, the colour looks like someone dyed it with fucking puke) was a huge surprise to me, but thankfully it's the music that takes the most of the spotlight here. You might feel that this song feels a bit static at times, but there are so many subtle elements to the production which raise in volume during the chorus. I love that the background music was put to great use, and it's apparent that this is the style of music that Alma was looking for - just listen to "Dye My Hair" and you can just tell that it's the same subtlety all over again, lthough she should really dye her hair blonde.
The version that was entered into TSC was the final release, so you may be wondering why did I decide to post the demo version? Well, there are several reasons for that:
1. The official visual for the final version of the song continues to promote the vomit-inducing artistry of Allie X' endless spinning throughout the whole video and I think I already got enough of puke stories after looking at Alma's hair.
2. The final version, just like to many of my favourite TSC songs, has got subtle elements during the verses, but they are not as effective as the pop-styled verses in the demo
3. The buildup as a result sounds a bit botched in the official version, while the demo one just keeps going with the pace.
The final version is still a very good song, don't misunderstand me, but I just think the demo is superior to the former, bet Lachlan will still be offended, but oh well. Anyway, I just hope that Allie X continues going with the more poppy style of her synth releases instead of going towards being super quirky because musically that obviously doesn't work for her.
13. The Veronicas - In My Blood - AlanDuncan, TSC242, 126 pts
Speaking of Lachie, he's probably the biggest The Veronicas fan around, so just imagine how pissed he must have been when someone took "In My Blood" from him. I mean, I'd be quite frustrated too - it's the best The Veronicas song since "Untouched" so it is no shock that this won. The girls look extremely odd in red wigs, though, no idea who came up with the styling, but it simply puts me off for some reason. At least musically they have finally showed that even without a label that tried to fuck them over for years they can still do well, and they also gave their old record company a huge fuck you when this song got them to #1 in their native Australia. 16. Alex Newell - This Ain't Over ..lol I know it won so I'm likely alone on this but lfor me this is my #1 worst song of the year, like nails on a chalkboard , absolutely hated it with a passion
Heard that in forev21 once, was overjoyed!
