For everyone who went through school wondering why we had to practice “lockdowns” and “shelter in place” during class, well it may have just saved my life.
I work at the Red Sox team store in the Fenway area, right next to us is a nice little area called Kenmore Square. Well there was a confirmed gunman in Kenmore today.
For those unaware, I have autism. No I’m not joking for sympathy, I have autism and simple tasks are hard to perform while in a potential crisis. For 45 minutes, the whole Fenway and Kenmore area was in lockdown and I wanted to run for my life. Thankfully, my coworker and close friend pulled me back from running out the door. I’m not sure if I would’ve interacted with the shooter or saw him at all, but I owe her my life now.
Luckily we are all safe and there were no casualties but I’m so glad I went through school able to be trained for when a situation like this occurred. I can’t thank my friend enough for pulling me back and calming me down. As it’s obvious from years on this website, I have a loose temper and make rash decisions on the spot.
Tragedies and mental illness are 2 things I have poked fun at in my lifetime but I’m glad this little occurrence came up so I can realize that it’s nothing to joke about.
I’m a year and a half into my autism diagnosis and ever since then, it’s opened up so many doors for me to get a job and get through school with all the help and support I need.
Next time you see 5-0, wherever you are, give them praise and let them know you’re thankful for having them in your life. They may give me a hard time in GTA, but these guys are my heroes.
Wow I'm glad you're okay. Honestly it doesn't even surprise me that there was another gunman running loose in America, but you never think it's going to happen to you.
Wow that’s so scary! I feel you, I have autism myself and I’ve been through something like this before, but it really makes you glad you can at least function in a way where you’re safe, cuz that’s all that matters. If you ever need to talk about mental illnesses and all that, I’m always here, and I’m glad you’re safe! I think you’re a cool dude from the little I know about you
Fell so bad for your country in the UK we didn’t practice lockdowns or anything like that in school because our gun control is far stitcher then the US
