how the fuck am I going to spend $20 on Sesame Chicken and then they don't give me free rice? Literally everywhere I've been in the USA you get white rice with your meal. They nickle and dime you for everything. It's already doubled the price, plus 15% tax (even WITH THE CONVERSION RATE). I swear food/groceries are more money than I paid in Australia. It makes me want to go back to the US for my PHD tbh
KrisStory to be fair, I think a lot of it is Newfoundland. So it's kind of like moving to Alaska (maybe not to that extreme) but then saying you hate the USA. So I don't want to generalize and say I hate Canada when it's more so Newfoundland. And all the PhD programs I did apply to were in Ontario/Quebec. I did apply to way more programs in the US obviously though and the US tends to give more money.
I lived in NFLD for a few years and while I loved the people, the cost of everything is insane. Sadly it’s because literally everything has to be imported so they tax things like crazy. The schooling is so cheap but everything else kinda balances it out
