I know I’m kind of really bad at this...every time I feel ready to do it, like WOW I WANT TO DO IT someone hasn’t submitted yet, and I am nice and extend but then when they do I’m not in the mood, and idk, I’m lowkey in a bit of a slump lately.
And listening to the Tallest Man will push me out of that, hopefully <3 so let’s get to results, same as last time, comments and then I will rank the songs and someone will be eliminated.
Boyfriend The Dreamer: Excellent start, this is one of my absolute favorites. This is definitely one of those songs I can just kind of get lost listening to, I don’t know it’s like I slip into my little trance and just feel it. “Sometimes the blues is just a passing bird, why can’t that always be? Tossing aside from your virtuous crown, with just enough dark to see, how you’re the light over me.” So good.
joshgillespie Love Is All: I really like how he sounds like he’s from another time, and you can definitely hear it in this song, it sounds very like a folksy early 70’s song. “Here come the tears, but like always I let them go, just let them go.” So much emotion in his voice too, I love it.
tbrown_47 1904: So I mentioned I used to do music games like this on another website, and I would do weird themes like “send a song with a color” or “send a song with a month in the title” and whenever I did a year theme this was a song I’d hope for people to send. So good choice on that, I like this one a lot. He’s telling a story! About earthquakes, over a hundred years ago!
Absol The Gardener: Yesssss this is the first song I ever heard by him, and I thought his voice was so unique and a little weird. But then in some songs he sounds a lot like Bob Dylan, which is kind of cool (and who also had kind of a unique voice). Anyway, this song is cool and like, I kind of love that you are the one who sent it, because I know I can just ramble, and you will appreciate it. Like, it’s literally about killing the messenger, and he’s killing these other men to hide his own faults and stuff, and it’s honestly so fucked up, but like, talking about the garden and the plants from the dead bodies growing, and it makes a beautiful garden! It’s charming! “So now we’re dancing in the garden, and what a garden I have made, and now that death will grow my jasmine, I find it soothing I’m afraid” so good <3
Lukesaur Rivers: Another one that sounds like a folk song straight out of the 70s, and just kind of intoxicating, I just kind of get lost in the longing and loneliness of this song, you can hear it in his voice. Plus it’s cool how he much he uses nature as themes in his songs. “I guess it’s true, I guess these rivers never knew.” He’s so soulful and the guitar is so charming.
sosyomomma I’m a Stranger Now: This is one of his newer songs, just came out 2 years ago. The guitar is really kind of upbeat on this one, despite the sad lyrics still. I feel like this is one of his songs that kind of has the most like...mainstream appeal. It’s nice, but I don’t know. Some tough competition this round. Then again I do really like the simplicity at the end of the song when the music gets really slow and he is whispering.
Joee323 King of Spain: I think The Wild Hunt (btw CRYING typing the word hunt I subconsciously added a y at the end from spending way too much time with hunty) anyway, I think it’s my favorite album of his, there are so many good songs on it. This one is pretty cool. He just wants to be the king of Spain! She loves him, he can be anything he wants! “Because you named me as your lover, I thought I could be anything. Well if you could reinvent my name, well if you could redirect my day, I want to be the King of Spain” <3
mathboy9 Burden of Tomorrow: Another song off The Wild Hunt (and I typed Hunty again, I can’t). This song is so good, like the imagery is just really nice. “Rumor has it I wasn’t born, I just walked in one frosty morn in the vision of a vacant mind” “Once I held a pony by its flying mane” “oh the singers on the edge to feed the canyon’s mouth, they will go on forever until they sing you out of time.” He is so cool. Love.
BarbraStreisand The Drying of the Lawns: More songs off The Wild Hunt. I love this one too. “But I will stand down in the hallway with no thought to leave the set, of a movie I sure as hell will not end just yet.” You know I am honestly kind of in love with this man. Like his voice, his song writing, and then like, on top of that he’s really hot.
newnightmare7 It Will Follow The Rain: This is one of his earlier songs, and the Bob Dylan comparisons are pretty big in this one, both vocally and with his lyrics. Also lmao I guess this was in an Infinity car commercial, it’s all over the comments. Have not seen the commercial, but that amuses me.
Tryphena Where Do My Bluebirds Fly: “With all these fever in my mind, I could drown in your kerosene eyes” is one of my favorite lines by him, so I am happy that someone submitted this, and you picking a live version is really nice as well. I feel like I am too tired for longer comments, so I’m sorry they are shorter this round.
blazermaniac94 What I’ve Been Kicking Around: I feel like this album just isn’t as good as his other ones. I don’t know. That is the downside of when I make everyone send the same artist, because a lesser song by any of these guys is still good, but in comparison with some of the best ones it’s a bit tricky to compete. This is okay, but “what I’ve been kicking around” just can’t compete lyrically with burying bodies in the garden or kerosene eyes.
Okay so unfortunately MULTIPLE people did not submit, which I can only assume means they hate me and/or my themes, since you know I extended the deadline and both mailed and blogged people reminders.
So nenalalala and _matt are both eliminated for not submitting. Hunty did not submit an acceptable song either (he attempted to send something someone else had picked twice, then just...gave up picking a new one?) BUT because he won last round, I will give him one more chance to submit for next round, but if his submission next round is in the bottom three, he will be eliminated.
Since I already eliminated 2 (possibly 3) people for not submitting, all of you who submitted will move on to the next round! But here are the rankings:
