Cherry Music Game Results Two

Sep 15, 2021 by cheritaisdelicious
Results time! This is why I was hesitant to host a game, because I know I can put things like this off for days when I am just not in the mood, but you guys haven’t been nagging me, and I appreciate that.

So let’s see how you all did with Father John Misty! Commentary, then we will get to the elimination.

Absol Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings: Lol @ you sending this after I sent this in your game. But hey, you liked it, and you know I like it, so work! This is a great song to start off the round though, so yay at you being the first person to submit, haha. This is usually my go to song when trying to make new people listen to him. It’s fun and upbeat, and like, everyone loves Aubrey Plaza, so the video goes well at least. Of the four main FJM albums, Fear Fun is probably my least favorite, but this is also my favorite song off of that album, and I like it quite a bit. Also, random fun facts, I think it’s in the comments on the video but I am too lazy to look, but people were making fun of the lyrics and saying other things that it sounds like, and two of the changed lines were “sheeeeee’s a spice girl” and “someone’s got a healthy dick” so about half the time when I listen to the song I think of that and giggle.

sosyomomma Mr Tillman: Ugh this song is so fucking good. Okay so like, the first album I heard by him and fell in love with was I Love You Honeybear, which is the second one, and so like, I really loved that album soooo much I didn’t think anything else could top it. So when his next two albums came out, I listened to them both like once at first and then kinda cast them aside. But then you know, there was a fucking PANDEMIC and at the beginning of quarantine I listened to both of the other albums in full a few times and kind of fell in love with them too, and this is definitely one of my favorite songs off of God’s Favorite Customer, and probably the first song off this album I really connected with. “I’m feeling good, I’m feeling so fine, I’m living in a cloud above an island in my mind.” Fun fact, I left that as a caption on an instagram post, and my sister commented and asked if I was okay LMAO.

Joee323 Pure Comedy: So as I mentioned in the comment above, I didn’t really listen to this album much when it came out. This song did stand out to me in my first listen of the album, and I did come back to listen to this song a few more times before I eventually became into the album as a whole. I like how this song is kind of like peak FJM storytelling, and also a song that makes you think. It’s like...half political, half about life in general, which kind of sums him up as a whole. Also, I usually listen to music while doing things, so I don’t often WATCH videos, and this is my first time seeing the video for this in full, and it’s very fitting and basically what I would expect. He’s so good.

Lukesaur Holy Shit: So this is off I Love You Honeybear, which is one of my favorite albums, and my overall favorite by him. However this is one of the weaker songs off the album, sometimes when I listen to it I kind of think he could have combined ideas in both this and Bored in the USA into one song, because they seem like they kind of have the same thoughts behind them a bit, and I like the other song better. This song has its moments though, I like how it’s basically pure cynicism, but like...the music itself has a nice sweet sound, and his voice is really strong in this one, so basically if you listened to this song without actually listening to the lyrics, it sounds like a love song or something. This man is such a genius <3

Booyahhayoob Generic Pop Song #3: Honestly, this is a choice, haha. I actually forgot these existed, this isn’t from an album, he released three of these Generic Pop Song # together and they are like...basically satire. Like it’s him showing he knows what basic generic general public approved songs sound like, and how to write them, and he could do that if he wanted to. So like...it’s IRONIC. And he’s so cool for doing shit like that, he also has some Taylor Swift covers which he sings in the style of Lou Reed and those are ironic as fuck. But like...this is one of my favorite artists and like...I appreciate his SONGWRITING the most, so like...a song he kinda wrote as a joke like...sigh. This will definitely be a bottom tier submission. It’s like obviously Father John Misty period is better than most people, but listening to this when I could be listening to the masterpiece Leaving LA instead is a let down, t.ears.

tbrown_47 The Songwriter: Another song off of God’s Favorite Customer. This song has a really pretty sound to it, and the lyrics are nice. “Goodbye little songbird, now you’re free. Don’t forget I’m the only fan of yours who has the sense to ever leave you be.” Not a top favorite, but definitely solid, and I do like the idea behind it, what would it sound like if his wife, who many of his songs are about/inspired by was the one writing songs about him instead. It’s kind of an interesting idea.

Tryphena Things It Would Have Been Helpful to Know Before the Revolution: This is off of Pure Comedy, and it’s one of those songs that like...seems so fitting for the times and it’s weird it came out in 2017, because this song definitely sounds like it could have come out in 2020. As I mentioned in a previous comment, I didn’t listen to this album extensively until the pandemic started, and it’s just...so weird how this song fits the state of the world in the past year and a half despite coming out several years prior. Also, I can’t decide which lines to quote and don’t want to end up quoting half the song, so just know it hits.

Mathboy9 I Went to the Store One Day: T.ears. This isn’t a bad song obviously, but like...this is from I Love You, Honeybear, which is one of my all-time favorite albums, but both songs submitted off it so far are in my bottom three of the album. Anyway, this has one of his trademarks of like...nice pretty sounding music and vocal style, but the song is cynical and stuff. I do really love the way the song jumps around, he meets a girl at the store, then fast forwarding through their lives, all the way until old age and stuff, then circling back and they’re just meeting in the parking lot. Also, the line “all because I went to the store one day” like WHAT IF HE HADN’T STOPPED TO TALK TO HER IN THE PARKING LOT. WOULD HE HAVE MET HIS WIFE? T.ears!

BarbraStreisand When You’re Smiling and Astride Me: Yesss a song off Honeybear that isn’t in my bottom 3 :P this one might be in my top 3, actually. Anyway, this is a love song, but like, not cutesy, it’s a bit sex driven, but also just about accepting the other person for who they are, no matter how messy that might be. “You see me as I am, it’s true, aimless fake drifter and the horny manchild mama’s boy to boot” He’s so open with painting a picture of himself without sugarcoating it to make himself sound better. He’s so good.

joshgillespie One of Us Cannot Be Wrong: This is a cover, the original song is by Leonard Cohen. Who is obviously a fantastic songwriter, and I know so many amazing covers of songs by him...that would actually be a cool idea for an upcoming theme, hmm. I’ve always been a lover of cover songs. Anyway, I do love this, a lot, but at the same time, I kind of wish you would have submitted something else, because I can’t quote my favorite lines accrediting them to him, because someone else wrote them, t.ears. Still so good though.

boyfriend Disappointing Diamonds Are the Rarest Of Them All: This is a decent song, it’s solid, you can’t really hate a song that starts with “Like a pervert on a crowded bus, a glare of love bares down on us” like that right there is enough to make the song iconic, but it’s not really a favorite, and I am so nitpicky, I keep thinking of all my absolute favorites and wishing someone had sent one of them, t.ears. DISAPPOINTING DIAMONDS ARE THE RAREST OF THEM ALL.

NewNightmare7 Real Love Baby: Wtf. I was going to say this was a random, surprising choice, because it’s not on any of his albums, it’s just a random single he released, but then when I was googling because I wanted to double check if he released this with another song I saw this is his number one most played song on Spotify, by a landslide, and this is so bizarre to me. This isn’t a bad song, I’ve actually always liked it quite a bit, when it first came out I thought it sounded cool and kind of retro, it gives me 60’s vibes. But like, this being his most popular song is so surprising to me, I don’t usually pay attention to stuff like that, but it just seems so random! I would have thought it was I Love You, Honeybear. Anyway, I have babbled a lot about nothing, as usual, but I do like the song, it’s fun and upbeat which occasionally I like!

Nenalalala I Love You, Honeybear: Honestly, I’m surprised that I had to get to the thirteenth submission to get to this song, because I assumed someone would have snatched it up earlier. This is the first song I ever heard by him and definitely what drew me in initially, this song is basically perfection. It’s a love song, but slightly twisted and cynical in his typical style, and the music is slightly upbeat, and the lyrics are so good “We’re getting out now while we can, you’re welcome boys, have the last of the smokes and chicken, just one Cadillac will do to get us out to where we’re going, I’ve brought my mother’s depression, you’ve got your father’s scorn, and a wayward aunt’s schizophrenia” like what? IN A LOVE SONG? Genius.

Hunty To S.: “Flying on past, in your voodoo mask, high on your own supply.” Honestly, this is the song I was most excited about someone submitting. The song above this is amazing and definitely a favorite, but it’s a single and one of his better known songs so I expected it to be submitted. I did not expect anyone to submit this, this isn’t on a regular album either, he just released two songs together last year, this one and another one called To R., and this is my favorite of the two. This was actually like...my favorite song for several weeks when it came out, I love it so much, it sounds so dreamy and hazy. “I had a dream and you were in it, is all you had to say, is all you had to say.”

Blazermaniac94 Everyman Needs a Companion: T.ears. So your link didn’t embed so I couldn’t see what it was without clicking, and I trusted you to follow the theme and not repeat a song, so I didn’t check to see what it was, so I had no idea what you sent (as opposed to most songs I clicked and looked what people picked as they were sending). And since you did so well last round, sending my favorite song and I wasn’t sure if that was a lucky coincidence or if I had told you before and you remembered, I HAD HIGH HOPES FOR YOU THIS TIME. I was hoping you would remember my favorite song if I had mentioned it before, and send it, so I had HIGH HOPES for this and this is just...fine. Like it’s Father John Misty so it’s obviously decent, but like...idk, not a favorite. I have always liked these lines though “I got hung up on religion, though I know it’s a waste, I never liked the name Joshua, I got tired of J” and SINCE YOUR NAME IS JOSH, MAYBE THAT ALSO STUCK OUT TO YOU AND THAT IS WHY YOU PICKED IT.

_Matt True Affection: Lmao I’m crying. I said earlier that two of my least favorite songs off this album were submitted, and here’s the third. I wish you had sent The Ideal Husband, that one is my favorite off this album. This song...I don’t know. I’ve always thought it was both the weakest song on the album, and that it seemed a bit out of place. I mean I guess I appreciate it for what it is, talking about digital life and all of that, kind of really hits, cuz like sometimes you do feel like your conversations with people are behind screens and not face to face. So I like that. But the rest, just...ugh, really not a favorite, and the digital music, this is one of his misses with me, t.ears.

Okay so let's get to it! First, I will be eliminating FromAWindow for not submitting, despite me extending the deadline, and reminding/nagging him three different ways. I assume he dropped because he hates me, t.ears.

I will now list the songs from highest to lowest!!!

Highest score and the WINNER of this round is...Hunty!!!!

Next is a tie between Nena and Sosy! Congrats on rounding out the top three, ladies!

Then we have Absol, Barbra, and Tryphena!

Followed by Newnightmare and Joe

Next are Tbrown, Josh Gilly, and Blazer

Then the last two safe from the bottom three are Mathboy and Boyfriend.

Which leaves are bottom three of Matt, Lukesaur, and Booyah.
