I bet you guys didn’t think I would actually do results. This is at MY PACE! Anyway, my game is a little different than others on here, I guess. There’s no fancy formats or twists stolen from reality competition shows I don’t watch. Just a theme and then me writing long essays full of random stories and quoting lines from the songs. Bottom gets eliminated, unless I have a round I decide I can’t get rid of anything/
Anyway, here is my commentary for the songs submitted, and they are in order of my favorite first to my least favorite last.
#Thnksfrthmmrs Bon Iver - Holocene
Okay you called this the basic pick and like, while you’re not totally wrong, it’s not first on the list of basic picks (hello Skinny Love), but also, in this case I don’t matter, because I love it so much. This is possibly my favorite Bon Iver song, and it’s definitely one of those songs I can listen to on repeat when I am in one of my moods. This is just so soft and sad and beautiful sounding. “And at once I knew I was not magnificent” is my favorite line. Also, the references to Milwaukee are so perfect. That’s my city! We never get mentioned in cool stuff! Like one of my favorite artists being from my state is pretty cool, because it’s not like Wisconsin is really the hot spot. Justin Vernon has multiple projects, if you aren’t familiar with them I also recommend checking out Volcano Choir, they’re pretty cool. Byegone is a good song and probably their most popular, but Comrade is probably my favorite. Quick interlude to listen to it.

Honestly I am so stoked that you already liked one of my favorite bands, well at least one song enough to add and you came into this PREPARED. Don’t let me down, you were the one who gave me the idea to host this, I expect great things from you! I am super excited for this album to come out. They have been collaborating with a lot of other artists lately, there was the one with Bon Iver that I submitted to XMC, and then on the upcoming album there’s one with Sufjan Stevens, and two with Phoebe Bridgers. Anyway, back to the song itself. I’ve already listened to it several times before this of course, and I liked it, I feel like their sound has evolved a bit throughout the years, I don’t know, different eras I guess, I’m shockingly bad at describing music, but it’s kind of cool listening to the evolution of their music and stuff, not saying any is better than the others, but they have sort of a more polished sound now which is interesting. Pink Rabbits will probably always be my favorite by them, but I do like this song.
#tswiftlover13 Bright Eyes - First Day of My Life
Lollll this is hands down the most popular and well known Bright Eyes song, probably the only one that is like…almost mainstream. It’s definitely the most like…”user friendly” for people who don’t typically listen to this type of music. I used to host music games on another site, years ago, and whenever the theme was what people liked to call “Cherry music” everyone would fall all over themselves to be the first to submit this song if I didn’t remember to ban it, so you choosing this made me giggle for that reason. But I will admit I do understand why this is people’s go-to. It’s a sweet love song, I can’t hate on it even if it is a basic submission to me. If I was hearing this for the first time, I would think it was a cute sweet acoustic love song. It’s simple, and the lyrics are nice. “These things there’s no telling, you just have to wait and see, but I’d rather be working for a paycheck than waiting to win the lottery” is just so sweet and hopeful and poetic. So while this is not one of my favorite Bright Eyes songs, it’s still a solid one I enjoy listening to, and I actually appreciate you submitting my favorite band (and this song is on one of my favorite albums of all time!) and not giggling and sending a collab between Bon Iver and a certain blonde singer!
#booyahhayoob Father John Misty - Real Love Baby
Lol @ you picking the most played spotify song. I knew this was the number 1, but honestly, it BAFFLES me and I don’t understand why it is. This was like…just some random some he released, it wasn’t on any of his albums. If I didn’t already know this was his most played song it would not have been my guess. I was gonna list what my guesses would have been, but then I realized you both don’t care and will have no idea what I am talking about. Anyway, this song. I have some mixed feelings on it. On the one hand, it’s fun and catchy, and I love the retro sound to it, the chorus especially gives me major 60s vibes, almost sounds like surf rock to me, makes me think of the Beach Boys, but that literally might just be me, because I mentioned that to my best friend once and he is a bigger music guru than me and he was like um, idk girl I don’t hear it. ANYWAY. It’s upbeat and fun, but like…at the same time, UPBEAT AND FUN are not my main reasons for listening to Father John Misty, his lyrics and THE THINGS I FEEL WHEN LISTENING are what draws me in, so like…this song doesn’t really have that. So it’s cute and I enjoy it, but there are also probably 30 songs by him I would have preferred. Wait, and I just realized you were the ONLY person to submit him, so I am super disappointed this was the submission.
#spikedcurley The Tallest Man on Earth - It Will Follow The Rain
Omg you were the only one to send him. You were the last person to submit and I kept thinking like DIDN’T I HAVE ANOTHER OPTION WHERE IS IT. Anyway, this man is from Sweden and he’s one of my favorite folk singers, I love his raspy voice. This is from his first solo album, and it’s such a simple song, just him and his guitar. You can’t hear it as much in this song, but his voice sounds like Bob Dylan sometimes, which is what initially drew me in. This isn’t a favorite, but it’s still a nice song and a decent close to the round.
#Mathboy9 The National - Don’t Swallow The Cap
I love Matt Berninger’s voice, something about it is just always so soothing to me, I can put The National on and just kind of zone out. This is from Trouble Will Find Me, which is one of their best albums. It has Pink Rabbits on it! That’s one of my absolute favorite songs. This one is good too enough that I enjoy it while I am listening to it, but other than the chorus nothing about it really sticks with me after I am done listening to it. Everything I love is on the table. The first song I am listening to, so you can see where you end up once I listen to the rest.
#DisneyGeek Bon Iver and Taylor Swift - Exile
Bestie, really? I was honestly floored that someone submit this, because I feel like I make it pretty clear that I am not exactly a Taylor fan, and on top of that like…she is literally all over this site, all the time. I DID NOT EXPECT HER TO CREEP INTO MY GAME TOO. THIS IS WHY WE CAN’T HAVE NICE THINGS. But I am a bit torn, because while it made me cringe that someone chose to send this to MY game, I do also like this song, it’s one of the handful of songs by her that I will listen to of my own accord, mostly because of Bon Iver, obv. Like the Taylor of it does nothing for me, it could be any female singer singing her part and I’d listen to it. I remember being APPALLED when her album came out and I heard there was a Bon Iver collab, because like, t.ears my world isn’t supposed to meet that world. I didn’t actively seek the song out to listen to, but it played in the season 3 finale of You, and I knew what it was because I HAD HEARD PEOPLE QUOTING IT ON THE BLOGS PAGE. Shockingly this happens to me a lot irl LMAO because I really am just in my own bubble a lot of the time, and then I will randomly hear a song on a show or cuz someone at work picked the playlist, and I will think “oh this is that song people were talking about on the blogs page.” ANYWAY. Summary, I do like this song but I also hate that you submitted it.

I laughed at your friend having a playlist called “Lmao Fucking Simp.” Also, is your friend PrinceVans? Also lolllll I just looked this song up because I couldn’t remember if it was on an album, and apparently it was in the movie Twilight New Moon, which legit made me giggle. Actually, now that I think about it, maybe a lot of my songs are fitting? I remember putting on a playlist I had made at work once, my MELLOW MIX playlist, and one of my coworkers told me that if they ever made another Twlight movie I should be in charge of the soundtrack. LMAO? IDK IF THAT IS AN INSULT OR JUST A COMMENT! Anyway, this song is like…I don’t know. It’s decent, I like it alright, but it’s also not one that SUPER stands out to me. It sounds nice, it definitely fits a certain type of vibe, but it’s also not something that would be one of my go to songs to add to a playlist.

T.ears not you picking a song off The People’s Key. That’s probably their worst album. It has a couple absolutely amazing songs on it, like Ladder Song, and Shell Games is pretty catchy, but as a whole it’s my least favorite album. Actually I am curious why/how you came to pick this song, because not only is it a reallyyyy random choice, I also kind of hate it. Mostly because of the beginning. I love a lot of Connor’s artistic decisions, but this one to have some random guy (I didn’t even know who it was tbh, I just looked it up now and it’s his friend) talk at the beginning just always annoys me. If I listen to this album as a whole, it takes me out so much because it basically just sounds like a random minister’s sermon breaking up the songs. Anyway, by the time the song itself starts I am so worked up with annoyance from listening to the other guy talk that I am already OVER IT. Lmao I’m crying at you submitting a song by one of my all time favorite bands yet somehow managing to piss me off by doing so. There’s always someone!
