I know that I don’t usually blog much, and this is directed towards the Survivor Group Game Community. This is something that I want to address after further investigation. If you want to continue to read this further the topic is surrounded around originality.
TotsTrashy who is currently hosting his group Survivor Indonesia – Fans vs. Favorites has copied word for word the entire format of my series. When I’m defining the word format this is regarding:
• Challenges (he does them all word for word in my game)
• Idol Format (how hide them and how clues are distributed)
• Tribal Council (structure/vote reading)
• Finale Forum
• Forums (Structure of Forums Exact Same)
He has even gone to the lengths of copying my puzzles and posting them in his group. What’s listed below are examples which show that I originally create certain material and he copied pasted and everything into his game. The puzzles he stole were from the first season of the Generation of 2.
While, you’d think I’d admire the fact that someone wants to copy me as a host after 28 seasons of hosting. I’m extremely annoyed by the fact that a host would straight up copy everything that I’ve worked for. It feels as if I’ve been ripped off everything that I’ve done from my three years of hosting and can’t do anything to stop it other than voicing my opinions.
Does borrowing stuff happen in the group game? Absolutely, I can attest that I’ve borrowed a challenge or two from former hosts who I viewed upon as mentors. But, I’ve NEVER full on took someone’s series and try to make it a carbon copy. However, I’m under the mindset that everyone needs to have some form of originality and in this case, there is not a single ounce. I highly voice my concerns that Tots just attempts to steal others work.
Dana, I don’t know why you thought this was okay and I really can’t stop you from what you’re doing. There is no penalization of what you’re doing on Tengaged standards and is not bannable. However, all I can do is voice my own opinions in hopes that people will stop playing your game for the sake of that you’re an unoriginal host that doesn’t have one creative thought in your entire body. You probably don’t care what I’m saying in this blog and that’s fine. However, to group game players who want to become hosts or current hosts then I highly recommend don’t follow this tactic.
In fact, this has inspired to be even more innovative with my challenges in the future. So thank you copycat, for motivating me to work even harder and become even more dedicated to my series.
If you want to further investigate and see the resemblance be my guest :-)
I'm all for people sharing and "borrowing" challenges. Hell, I literally tell anybody who asks that you're free to use any challenge from my group, but that's ridiculous. At least change things up a little.
There's an Amazing Race group that copied a lot of my text word for word and once upon a time Tengaged Moderation actually closed a group that was a complete copy of mine lol.
