Columbia and Colombia are both derived from Columbus, but Colombia is the Spanish version so people should use that when referencing the country.

Two things:

1) British Columbia exists and it's more relevant to English-speakers than Colombia.

2) "Spelled" is a better pronunciation than "spelt" because past tense (including past participle) inflection assimilates the voicing (or lack of voicing) from the nearest sound. L is voiced, and so we use D instead, YasGaga, Catch_a_falling_Star.

Loopspeare - Doesn't change the fact that both spellings are acceptable. Especially in the UK where you are more likely to see 'spelt' than 'spelled'.
