I just want to say that I’ve never felt so offend in my entire gay life. I can’t express my ‘gayness’ by using words that in my original language we often use it with PRIDE??? This is ridiculous! The sentence wasn’t directed to anyone. It seems that here on tengaged being gay is a crime. This episode affected me in a way that I remembered all the personal attacks I had passed throughout my gay life. There’s a language barrier on the administration of this site and it’s about time for us, not native english speakers, to have a representation on the board. Culture isn’t universal, and we should not use the google translator to decide what words in Portuguese the Brazilian users can’t use, this affect us as individuals and it’s very intimidating.
And btw I don’t give a f*** if it’s the rule, I’m upset and I have the right to express my feelings. :)
And I’m sorry if my text isn’t perfect I’m still learning English.
Thank you for that. I don't think the Google translator should be used as an absolute truth, mainly because of the representation that for some is important. The impression I have is that it is much more important to punish Brazilians for something in their native language. Anyway, I'm on your side... I will always be! I'm sorry that you have to remember such bad things for something that could be easily resolved. The most important thing is that the representative person is really impartial in observing contexts. ILY 🖤
Unfortunately the word will remained banned. We are aware of the context of the word, and how your community uses it. However from a moderation standpoint our hands are tied. Regardless of the context of the word, the word can and does show up as a slur when American and English websites translate it. Which means unfortunately do to the nature of that the word is still a bannable phrase. Unfortunately for fairness reasons we cannot allow the word. Regardless of how the word is used in your community it shows up as a slur on the website. That’s the truth of it. The website cannot allow the word to be used.
Take it from the point of randomize who owns this website, and has expressed to moderation and interest in revitalizing the site. It is detrimental from a standpoint for him, if the slurs in any manner even through a translator show up on his website. Most computers now automatically translate foreign languages. So for many Western users they do not see your original language. For example when I saw the post. I did not see your original post, it just showed up on my computer as a slur, and several others as well. We are not saying the word and anyone who uses it is trying to be derogatory. Simply that the word due to how it can be perceived and how it can show up as a slur is not allowed.
Which is why the word is not allowed under any context at all.
We are also working on finding representation for your communities on the Tengaged Council. But in this specific scenario the word even after consultation with members of your community is still deemed as a word that is not allowed on the website.
I was also attacked in other situations and I was simply told to block the person. And it was the recommendation of a moderator. I really think you guys have to find a starting point... Because it's hard to accept that only a few people get punished. I suggested that you send a warning, especially if it's in people's native language... For example, the other word "viad**" wasn't on your blog in relation to lukesaur and yet it was banned (@fares).
