That's so funny, everyone I know chooses forward, I just go with which seat draws my eye. Sometimes I plan it based on "if the train crashes, which seat would be the safest based on the carriage placement". Always be prepared!
I sit backwards because old people never want those seats so it is less likely they would ask me to get up
They are too picky if you ask me but hey, works for me
