Big Brother may be over

Aug 10, 2020 by Timster
These ratings are flopping HARD. Premiere was 3.9 million total, yesterday was 3.1. It only goes down from here until the finale.

Yes I know the 18-49 age group ratings are most important and for that reason Big Brother is still one of the top shows of the night but... whew. I think it's funny that Survivor is also tanking (but the decline is more steady) and The Challenge is doing better and better. There was a time where The Challenge was averaging half a million viewers I think around Bloodlines and now they get almost a million or over a million per episode. #Longevity

What were the ratings like for Big Brother in the last 4 or 5 years? Like did Big Brother used to get 4 to 5 million viewers in the past?

idk i feel like big brother out of all the reality shows is probably the safest. it has a big millennial #stantwitter following (i saw keesha janelle and kaysar all trending on twitter within the last 3 days) and loyal catlady fans alike. its cheap to produce etc etc

i feel like corona is prob just accelerating the downfall of network television and once that happens big brother will be one of the reality shows that actually does extremely well on streaming services since cbs

megan the AVERAGE from the last 3 seasons starting for 19 is 6.06, 5.41, 4.38. The show's peak was Season 1 lol which almost had 10 million viewers and averaged between 6-8 million until Season 18 it's gone down and down since then. Never seen it hit 3 million though.

splozojames50 True it was trending well. Enzo had 40 million tweets when live feeds came back to show he won veto. But trends aren't everything and can create an illusion for popularity. My fave trends #1 whenever she drops something but ain't nobody buying her side project albums!

People thought Corona was helping The Challenge until Teen Mom tanked. It normally does better but The Challenge is the only show on MTV that's improving. It's weird

wow that is pretty bad. I hope it wont get cancelled though because I enjoy Big Brother. And yes I have noticed that The Challenge is doing better now. I watch that too and i remember when it would only get half a million viewers. I would be sad if either Big Brother or The Challenge got cancelled so I hope they both can continue to last for along time.

splozojames50 Another example of trends creating a false narrative of a show's popularity is the fact that BB contestants all get at least 30k+ followers no matter what (with a FEW exceptions getting like 17k cause no one remembers them) compared to Survivor's getting like 5k unless they're a big face and Survivor gets x2-x3 as many total viewers

timster, these are really interesting points. i think that since there was low advertising, and the premiere was pretty lack luster quality because it was live, THEN they delayed sundays ep (and even warned viewers about that on the premiere ep) i am not surprised numbers dropped.. hopefully they can go back up a bit. i also think the challenge did a really good job advertising their new season, ive never seen it but i kept seeing the commercials and i really wanna watch it now :)
